Because you did not serve the Lord your God with joyfulness and gladness of heart…blah blah… I wil get really really cross and I will shout lots and finally I will bring upon you a nasty and violent death…

C’mon folks… weigh up the choices… Hmm! Devotion to The Lord…(with a BIG smile).Or
a yoke of iron around my neck till I am destroyed…a nation who shall eat the offspring of my cattle and the fruit of my ground untill i am destroyed… leave me no grain, wine , or oil untill they have caused me to perish.

Oooh!! It gets better

I shall be left to eat the offspring of my own body and the flesh of my sons and daughters.

We talk of living in a democratically elected society…where fairness and justice prevail… And then I read this. I is very confused:confused:

The point is … publicly, God is portrayed as some merciful, loving
figure on a par with santa clause. Yet under the surface lies this selfish, tantrum prone spoilt hormonal teenager. If he can’t get his own way every time, he will bring down destruction upon those who, not only will not play his game, but when they do, refuse to let him win, have the biggest toy, or play the loudest instrument.
Believe in God or be severely punished.

Thank you, that is much clearer now.

What God is saying is that if you follow Him and desire to be with Him, then you will be.

If you don’t follow Him, and choose to live in this world with no regard for the next, then He will allow that.

There are two choices in the after-life.
a) With God
b) Without

He loves you so much that He gives you that choice. Hell is simply the absence of God, so if that’s what you want, He gives it to you.

What is your problem with that?

if he loves me , us so much that he gives us the choice, then why are we threatened with being punished and destroyed if we choose to
not follow God.

It’s like your mother telling you that you’ll get sick if you refuse to eat. She’s perfectly right, not because she plans to punish you, but because the sickness is an inescapable consequence of the not eating.

Sin and evil have consequences - in this world as well as the next, and left unchecked they usually DO lead to the ruin of societies, hunger and deprivation and yes, civil collapse and conquest by other societies.

Oh. I understand. Like the Spanish conquest of the Inca people. Or the end of the Aztec people. Oh, and the anihillation of the Cathars.

Other religions have also been guilty of similar crimes against humanity. Muslims, hindus, sikhs, etc…

NAZI leaders were executed for much less.

So you are proposing that because a group of Catholics massacred the Incas, then the Catholic Church must be evil. I hear this argument all the time….

Please examine this logic:

You infer that the Catholic Church is evil and does not possess the fullness of the truth because they have committed crimes against humanity.

This statement seems convincing, but in fact it is quite flawed. How can you judge an entire institution on the evil actions of so few?

Does the Church not teach that every man is a sinner?

Did not St. Paul, a man who was obviously filled with the Holy Spirit, stone St. Stephen to death?

You cannot judge the Catholic church for the crimes that some of its members have done. If you could, I would judge the United States on such atrocities such as the My Lai massacre and Abu Ghraib. The reason I cannot judge these institutions/ nations is because the actions committed be their members are a violation of the values they stand for. Therefore they are condemned by outsiders and those within.

Also, you have much anger inside of you. It must be a great burden to live with. My sympathies are with you.

The above post is mine. I didn’t know my brother made an account. He was automatically logged in. 😛

And? Because some of these sinners weren’t actually executed you’re presuming they and their countries didn’t suffer consequences for their sins? You obviously never heard of a little naval skirmish the Spanish were involved in called the Armada - the cream of their naval power obliterated. Spain basically destroyed as a European power. It occurred within the same generation, give or take, as the Spanish conquest of America.

You know how Hernan Cortes died? Miserably, of the disease dysentery. A disease, interesingly, otherwise known as ‘Montezuma’s revenge’. Koinkydink? No-one thought so, obviously.

Pizarro (the other well-known conquistador)? Assassinated by his own underlings, calling on God for mercy, tracing a cross on the floor in his own blood.

Hernando de Soto? Of fever in an Indian village in the middle of nowhere in America. His body wasn’t even given a decent burial, it had to be chucked in a nearby river because, having tried to convince the natives that he was a god, his companions couldn’t let them see his corpse.

Don’t tell me sin doesn’t have consequences for the sinner.

Being from the UK, I am well aware of the Armada. Obliterated mainly by the British forces under Elizabeth I of England Charles Howard and Francis Drake. Maybe these consequences occured with the intervention from the “Divine One”, but why allow all the destruction of civiliastions for then to exact some spiritual and divine revenge.

The punishment and destroying is the complete absence of God (which is what you chose in this life). Oh, and knowing that its your own darned fault.

Oh. I understand. Like the Spanish conquest of the Inca people. Or the end of the Aztec people. Oh, and the anihillation of the Cathars.
The Inca and the Aztec were a result of secular leaders wanting an empire.

You’ll have to provide more details on the “anihillation of the Cathars”, please.

I don’t understand your point, here.

BTW, you’re not a very happy individual, are you?

God doesn’t blame us for our faults or mistakes. Any sinner can turn from sin, find forgiveness and be saved by Him, which He clearly wouldn’t permit if He seriously blamed us for our sins in and of themselves.

It’s when we WALLOW in our faults and sins and mistakes and refuse to seek forgiveness that the inevitable consequences, natural and supernatural, come upon us.

Put it this way - a parent will forgive and help a child who has been using drugs but is genuinely doing their best to sober up. A parent will NOT forgive a child who refuses even to admit that using drugs is wrong or harmful let alone trying to kick the habit.

If your an atheist you’ll get more mileage here using logic and philosophy. Polemics won’t get you far. What’s with the udjat? You need the “Eye of Horus” for protection?🙂

I have never claimed to be an athiest. Nor am I an athiest. A neo religious anarchist is what is. I believe in something, just don’t know what that is yet

Your signature says a lot but it is not very accurate. A baboon can’t see his red bottom but he can see others and likely make the connection his is red too, if he bothered to care. Man too may not see his own shortcomings but he sees it in others enough to want to point it out to others on a webiste.

If you really believe in something then a honest journey to find it will bear good fruit. Good luck.
