Hello,
I am a 16 year old girl who wishes to become a nun. I do not know what I can do to achieve this dream of mine. I’d do anything for the Lord, yet I need the guidance.
God Bless

One of the things you can do is go to vocations.com. They set up discernment weekends for women considering religious life.
I will need to find the link for you. There is a order in New Jersey that provides a year’s formation. During that year, they help young women like yourself discover which order would be the best or if you actually have a religious vocation.
When I was young, I thought I wanted to be a nun. I had the wrong reason. I mailed various convents for information. When my mother found out what I was doing, she took me to talk to the chaplain (my father was in the Army).
The first thing I would suggest is that you speak to your parents and let them know about your desire to devote your life to God in this way. I only know of one Carmelite convent that will take women as young as 18 y/o. When I was young, there were still a few places that would take young ladies as young as 14 y/o.
Most convents (or monasteries, the more up-to-date term) require a woman to be 21 y/o… The upper age limit is generally 45 (instead of 30y/o as it was when I was younger).
The most important thing you can do is keep the matter in prayer and definitely speak to your parents.
I know this information because a few years ago, I had an unexpected “nun thought.” Even though I now have the right reason, impediments that I cannot remove stand in my way.

Are there any orders that attract you more than others?
I’m not sure. I want to care for ophans, perhaps in south east asia. I’m currently studying Thai Language and French (I know French more than anything so far) Yet, I’m not sure what the order is called.

Missionaries of Charity?
Franciscans of the Immaculate?

Once you learn Thai, you can probably make heads or tails of order websites from that part of the world.

Here’s a group you may be interested in:

It’s for those discerners younger than 17.

Blessings,
Cloisters

So a more active order then? Continue to pray for guidance. Our Lord will show you the place he has chosen for you.

Actually, unless you have reason to believe that your parents and relatives and friends would be extremely supportive, it might not be a good idea to discuss this with your parents. Talk to your pastor or someone else because I have been told that parents and relatives and friends can really make life absolutely miserable for vocational discerners when they don’t understand or want their children to enter consecrated life.

There is some truth to this. At the same time, I am suggesting that it is better to be upfront then to hide the truth, as I did.
Your pastor can help you with how and when to approach your parents about the subject.

Well considering my mom wants grandkids, it may be a good idea to talk to a pastor
