This is a wonderful way to share your faith. Either get your own PO Box and use a pen name to remain anonymous, or use my PO Box that I called St. Clare’s Restorative Mission. I’m just trying to encourage people to write to prisoners because so many of them are looking for the Lord and need someone to care on an individual level. 30 minutes every other week makes a huge difference in someone’s life. It’s best for men to write to men and women to women. I have a list of prisoners who are waiting for pen pals.

Great idea!

As a former prisoner, i can assure you that mail is the highlight of your day, second only to a visit. Every day when the mail list was posted, everyone would rush to see if they had mail. If you received mail from someone (not a notice or legal document, that was a real treat!

We would wait in line for 10-15 minutes and rush back to our bunks to read our letter, as those who received nothing looked on sadly.

**If we could all write to one or two poor souls and share the love of Jesus Christ with them, that would be fantastic.
**

"I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’" (Mt 25:35)

Please send me via private email, the name of a prisoner and i will become a pen pal and i encourage everyone to do the same!

Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, Ora Pro Nobis Peccatoribus!

Bless your heart, Mark 77. I can’t think of a better person to be able to share the good news of our faith with another. Thank you! I will send a private email, probably tomorrow when I have a few minutes, giving you more details.

Blessings in abundance! Kristine

Do they write back?

What do you write about?

How is it that they are on a list? Do they request it?

Yes, the inmates write back. The whole purpose of your relationship with them is to share Christ’s heart of compassion and offer Christ’s wisdom and answer their questions about life…sharing the hope of the gospel. This is an evangelistic ministry, accepting them as they are and praying for them and sharing truth in the spirit of Christ’s love.

They are on the list because they have heard about our ministry and want someone to write to them. I have an introductory letter from everyone. They are usually very open about who they are. What do they have to lose? There are various reasons they want a pen pal, but we know that unless they have a close relationship with Christ, they are trying to satisfy an emptiness in their hearts with something that will never satisfy. We are there to help them understand the questions of life and then help them answer those questions. It’s a very powerful ministry.

There is a gentleman that writes a family letter each week, sent to a group of inmates who have joined our “St. Clare’s Restorative Mission” Family. These are the inmates who are serious about learning more about the Lord. Many do not have religious training. Some have accepted the Lord while in prison during protestant services. They have no knowledge of the Catholic Church or the history of Christianity. So we have to discover what they need to know by becoming friends with them and allowing the Lord to use us as his instruments of peace and restoration.

Thank you for your interest!

If we use the PO box you have set up as the return address, are the letters then forwarded to us?

Hi!

Please send me information! I would love to do this.

God Bless!

I would also be interested, but would like to find out more about how it works if we use your PO box.

Thanks!

Yes, Milkbar, everything remains anonymous…you choose a pen pal name and exchange letters through St. Clare’s Mission PO Box. It’s very easy. You can also just email the letter to me and I’ll print it off and address it and send it to your pen pal. Whatever you’d prefer.
