Becoming better

I was looking at myself the other night at was thinking how horrid of an indivual I am and decieded that I should do something about it. I have noticed that I am rather selfish and fearful (to wear I am to scared to go up and help other people). After I am comfirmed, I would like to deal with these problems and a few others. Does anyone know of any classes the church offers that could help me with these and other things? Thanks and God bless.

Becoming better…isn’t that a life long struggle? And the funny thing is, you are usually your biggest critic. I have decided to be more vocal about my Catholic faith, one that I am very proud of, and I have found that I am more and more aware (confession has the same effect) when I am being a hypocrite!!

As as result, I am trying ever so hard to live up to what I preach because I know that I’m not fooling anyone when it comes to our all knowing God, and I’ve become a better all around person.

Recently, I was paid a great compliment after discussing my stance on pre-marital sex and how right the Church is, etc…I was told that I made that person, want to be a better person, and as a result that person immediately made some lifestyle changes (which hopefully is continued).

I think what you are wanting is to be more virtuous? Me, too. I kept reading books hoping that by the mere reading will propel me forward. sigh. However, I can give you a few titles that I like. *The Hidden Power of Kindness * by Fr. Lovasik. It seems like Curtis Mitch has one on virtue (From Boys to Men?). You Can Be a Saint by Mary Ann Budnik. That one also has a workbook So you can read the book and do the workbook!!

Probably a spiritual director is the best thing. Regnum Christi offers spiritual direction. Also Fr. Dubay recommends meditating every evening and making a small resolution daily. In that way you can grow in virtue all the way to Heroic Virtue Heroic Virtue=Sainthood!!! :dancing:

Spiritual direction is an excellent idea, however I think making more frequent reception of the sacraments of reconciliation and the Holy Eucharist, gives you immediately tools to help you become better. It certainly has helped me in my struggle against temptation to sin. The fact that you are aware of your desire to become more like the saints and pick up your cross and following Him who has saved us is more than half the battle. But we can’t do it alone…we have to link our crosses to His. That’s the whole secret…My heart is restless until it rests in Him, said St.Augustine.

If you want to become a better person and a better Catholic join the Knights of Columbus.
We do a lot of good work and it is much easier to do things in a group. When we try to do things alone we have a difficult time over coming inertial and our own fears of failure or not knowing what to do. The KC has a lot of programs already on going. We do a lot of charity work, and it is easy to just jump in and pitch a helping hand.

Join the KC, I highly recommend it.
