Hi, i’ve been a christian my whole life but i have been recently looking into becoming catholic. What are the steps an already babtized teenaged boy would have to take to become catholic?

Welcome to the forum, doke! I am curious, what made you consider Catholicism?

It is simple. You find a parish and talk to the pastor. The pastor is the ranking priest of the parish, and he usually has one or more associate priests. You can talk to an associate priest if you can’t find the pastor (he’s usually very busy). He’ll inform you on upcoming RCIA programs, which you’ll need to take before you are received into the Church. RCIA stands for Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. You’ll be educated on the basics, and then you’ll be received into the Church, usually at a special ceremonial celebration of the Mass. Your baptism, btw, is valid. You do not have to be re-baptized.

I should warn you: not all parishes are examples of authentic Catholicism, and you may have to search a bit before finding one that suits your spiritual sensibility, so to speak.

👍

Thanks for the help! I see being catholic as a really structered and great way to worship god. Is it possible to be re-babtized? It would kind of signify almost starting fresh in my faith.

You won’t get rebaptized. When you get confirmed and on every Easter, you will renew your baptismal promise.

Baptism is a big deal in the Catholic Church. The Church believes, as Scripture teaches, that a transformation of the soul takes place at baptism, and this is something that only ever happens once. This is why Baptism is a one-shot deal, so to speak, in the CC.

Was he baptized in the Catholic Church, or would that matter?
There are some baptisms that the Catholic Church does not accept as valid, such as baptism performed by the LDS Church. Otherwise, as long as you were baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, you are validly baptized in the eyes of the Church.

I will have to say that there are a few “Christian” denominations whose baptisms do not count as valid baptisms for the Church. Speaking to the RCIA director and the priest will help you determine which next steps you need to take.

Welcome home!

I am pretty sure that your parents would also have to consent.

Congratulations on learning the true Christian faith and way of life! Although is hard for teenagers!

Steps to become Catholics.
  1. Talk to local parish priest.
  2. Enter RCIA classes.
  3. Learn the Catholic faith.
  4. Finally you come home!
God Bless and good luck!

To the OP, congratulations on your decision!

Be aware that you are not alone, I was in an identical situation earlier this year. I was already baptised and 17, when I wanted to become Catholic (or revert, I was Catholic until 3). I had meetings with my priest for several months before I was finally confirmed almost 2 weeks ago! It’s a long process but totally worth it! Good luck!

Oh and by the way, don’t be shy about using this website! It comes in a handy all the time when dealing with complex issues of the Catholic faith. It’s a great resource tool and a spiritual community that will always be there to support you!
