Becoming Catholic?

Hi, I’m not sure if this is the right section to ask this, but I was wondering how would I go about becoming Catholic? I was baptized Catholic when I was a baby but never attended the church. My whole famiy used to be devout Caholics until after I was baptized, so unlike my brothers and sister I wasn’t raised in this faith. I grew up attending baptist churches, then left Christianity entirely until recently. I’m really interested in Catholicism and would maybe like to convert after learning more about it, where would I start and would I have to take RCIA classes if I was already baptized in the CC?

Welcome! You can find a Catholic parish near your home and attend a Mass there. Sit in the back and observe, you don’t have to know what to say or sing or when to kneel, just follow along as best you can. If you like the parish and feel you are being called to the Church, contact the parish office about attending the RCIA. Yes, Catholics who were baptized but who have received no further sacraments (Eucharist and Confirmation) do need to attend the RCIA.
 
That is correct…RCIA. My husband had to do the same thing…was only baptized Catholic but then raised protestant. The difference you will have in RCIA is that before holy communion you will have to make your first confession whereas the people that have not been baptized (either Catholic or a valid baptism in another faith) do not as the baptism will wash away their sins before first communion. My husband was confirmed this past Easter.

you are correct you are already Catholic
your preparation to complete your sacraments and become a fully participating member of the Church and the parish do indeed become part of RCIA in most places, as the rites and classes are adapted for adults who are baptized, but not catechized (never had a chance to learn about the Faith). So yes RCIA has folks like you in mind and your parish will be glad to hear from you. Call today as many programs are already starting.
 
Thank you for the answers everyone! 🙂 I talked with my mom today about my interest in becoming Catholic, and sometime this week we’re gonna go over to St. Johns, which is right across the street from where we live and will talk to them about attending RCIA classes. I’m really looking forward to it!
