Becoming closer to God

Is there any particular priority or order of what we can do to become closer to God?

A list (my understanding) of what can be done to bring us closer in communion with God:

• Prayer (to God, intercession)
• Sacraments
• Complete humility and dependence on God in everything we do (nothing can be attributed to us, and nothing can be done without God)
• Loving all of mankind with all our hearts (forgiveness, love, showing the path)
• Not sinning

Reading good spiritual books.

In the beginning of our communion with God is to fear Him. Next, is love Him. Love and fear then become like two wings of a bird, and it allows us to seek and do the will of God.

After the Mass, the rosary is usually considered to be the next highest form of prayer.
