Bede's gloss on Genesis 1:30

Reading the Summa,
it says

… Nor does Bede’s gloss on Genesis 1:30, say that trees and herbs were given as food to all animals and birds, but to some. Thus there would have been a natural antipathy between some animals.

Alright, Genesis 1:30

29 Here are all the herbs, God told them, that seed on earth, and all the trees, that carry in them the seeds of their own life, to be your food; 30 food for all the beasts on the earth, all that flies in the air, all that creeps along the ground; here all that lives shall find its nourishment. And so it was done.

OK, how could Bede say it was meant to some animals? What did I miss? Tank you
 
Bede may have been saying something similar to what St. Augustine said in his Confessions:

Behold, Thou hast given unto us for food “every herb bearing seed,” which is upon the face of all the earth, “and every tree in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed.” Nor to us only, but to all the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the earth, and to all creeping things; but unto the fishes, and great whales, Thou hast not given these things.

Bede may have simply meant “some” because creatures of the sea (“the fishes, and great whales”) seem to have been excluded.

It could also mean that not every animal will use every plant. So that all of the variations of plant life as a whole are for all the variations of animal life as a whole but not necessarily individual species of either plant or animal. Hope that makes sense.

An example of this is the Koala bear that eats Eucalyptus. But to some other animals Eucalyptus leaves are toxic and can kill them.
 
Yes, but this is no what Genesis is saying, right? Every living creature. Jimmy Akin says that to not exculde carnivorism in animals and probably man. How is this? Especiallly when we read the covenant with Noah, were meat is given, as were the plant before, in the old covenant.
 
In Genesis this is recorded before the fall of man. So while we can only speculate on what it was like in paradise, we do know that after the fall God cursed the earth. So I suppose it is possible that all of nature was in harmony but only after God’s curse do we see what appears as a contradiction now.
