“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
(Jeremiah 1:5 RSV-CE)

How could God know someone before they were formed in the womb if the pre-mortal existence isn’t true? I don’t believe it is true but this verse seems to support it.

God’s foreknowledge allows him to know everyone who will ever exist. He knows everything about everyone before they ever come to existence. That is also how He is able to predestinate, because He knows ahead of time how people are going to use their free will.

Parents are co-creators with God so until the moment of conception the new person does’nt exist.

God exists outside of time and space, so can see the entire universe - past, present, and future - all “at once.” This idea is from St Augustine’s Confessions, the chapter on time and eternity. Even science recognizes that space and time were created at the big bang.

We are created in the image of God. I believe ultimately we are like little parts of God. Just as it is said that at the time of Adam sinning we were existing in his loins, similarly we are existing in the heart of God. God knows all his parts and hence he knows us before mortal existence. I know I exist. I know I have always existed. I know I always shall exist. It kind of feels intuitive. I bet ask one year old child about her existence before she came into her Mummy’s tummy and she will feel that she always existed. We are God’s sons and are everlasting like him, perhaps because we are his parts. This is my belief. I have not read any scriptures, but I kind of believe in it.

I think it’s important that we remember that all-knowing is not just knowing everything that is, but knowing everything that could be. I look at it this way, God before choosing to create the universe, could look to the future and see every possible outcome, from the most mathematically perfect, but non-life sustaining universe, all the way to the most ludicrously chaotic and treacherous universe. Being omniscient, He knew even before he created the universe, exactly what he needed to do to make it to His vision, no “corrections” would be needed later.

Likewise, He knew we would be the result from the very beginning. But since He allows us free will, making us co-creators of the past, present, and future, He doesn’t just see what we will do. He witnesses every choice we could do. From the mundane choice of which color socks we’ll wear today, all the way to soul-shattering or saving decisions. Now, it must be remembered that the future doesn’t exist yet, so the Lord isn’t looking at what we absolutely will do, but at maybes. That said, He knows us better than we know ourselves, so He knows what choice we’re likely to make. And this extraordinary and supernatural knowledge forms the basis of His decisions on how to interact with us.

Since he can see every possible combination of events that could ever occur, he witnesses our lives, the lives of those yet born, and even the lives of those who will never know life. Both as they could be, as well as what they really are. I think this is why God allowed us free will in the first place, He saw how unutterably beautiful our relationship with him could be, and even knowing how appallingly terrible things might become, He couldn’t pass up the chance, however small, to see that relationship realized.

tl;dr

God sees every possible outcome in history and thus knows us completely, to the point of knowing us as the lowest of sinners and the most illuminated of saints. Even before we come into the world.

Jeremiah was destined to become a prophet before his birth; cf. Is 49:1, 5; Lk 1:15; Gal 1:15–16. I knew you: I loved you and chose you. I dedicated you: I set you apart to be a prophet. The nations: the neighbors of Judah, along with Assyria, Babylonia, and Egypt

Pick up a 12" ruler. Hold it out at arm’s length and look at it. This is the way that God sees the universe, not only from one physical side to the other, but from the beginning of its time to the end of its time. Just as you can see every marking on the ruler, so God can see every event anywhere in the universe at all points in time. That is how He can see the events in a person’s life before that person is born. From God’s point of view, there is no “before;” it’s all the same to Him.

A correction on this if I may. What you said isn’t true as you stated it. Time and space in the forms we understand it began at that point. It’s possible they did not exist before. It’s possible they existed in the same form before. And it’s also possible they existed in the same form before that point. It’s currently impossible to know.

Space and Time being created at that point is a Theistic concept. Not a Scientific one.
