Yes BUT you don’t KNOW her prior Faith formation history which plays a critical role:)
Exactly. Today’s RCIA participants are also coming in from a world that is a lot farther away from the values of the Catholic Church than the world of the 1950s - and they are a lot more demanding in terms of wanting to know “why” does the Church teach thusly - “pay, pray, and obey” never did really work, but today, nobody’s buying it - they want to understand what the Church teaches before assenting to it - which means we must invest the time in teaching it.

Exactly and that was the key to my own informal melting into the Church here in Ireland. The only other person my PP had admitted was an 18 year old bank clerk who was marrying a local RC man.

He knew my background and that had read widely and how i was living faith as a hermit.

The latter fazed him but we got there .

AMEN!

I haven’t heard the “pay, pray and OBEY” for quite some time. Thanks for the memories:thumbsup:

As a FYI,

I’m a trained Marian Catechist, NOW RETIRED, and I offer a TOTALLY FREE HOME STUDY E-MAILED COURSE; one lesson per week as well as answer all faith related questions for anyone that desires more than the time imposed limits of RCIA {which I co-taught for 3 years before retiring}.

Just send me a message

God Bless you

My father was Catholic and my mother was not. When they planned to marry in the Church my mother met with the priest for private instruction but decided not to convert.

Many years later when my mother was 85 and her health began to fail my spiritual director suggested I begin having discussions with her about the faith. The discussions lasted six months and then she said she wanted to be received into the Church and so she was, at age 86.

When I returned to the Church as an adult I had not been confirmed and my pastor arranged an adult confirmation class for several of us instead of having us go through the RCIA program.
