Before the fall, did animals kill each other?

If we accept a theistic evolution (God guiding evolution) then before death got into the world, how did animals survive?
 
According to this Bible passage, all animals and humans were herbivores (vegetarians):

Genesis 1:29-30
God also said: See, I give you every seed-bearing plant on all the earth and every tree that has seed-bearing fruit on it to be your food; and to all the wild animals, all the birds of the air, and all the living creatures that crawl on the earth, I give all the green plants for food. And so it happened.

In Genesis 9, after the flood, God tells Noah that he may eat animals.
 
Do we have any scientific evidence to prove that they were all eating plants and not each other?

I don’t think it is possible – or necessary – to reconcile theistic evolution with every detail of the biblical account of the Fall. All we know about biology and natural history suggests that death has existed as long as life existed.

Romans 5 pertains only to mankind not other animals. So yes animals died.
12 Wherefore as by one man sin entered into this world, and by sin death; and so death passed upon all men, in whom all have sinned. 13 For until the law sin was in the world; but sin was not imputed, when the law was not.
