Beginner's guide to Catholic translations of Scripture?

I’m a bit confused and bewildered by all the different translations of Sacred Scripture out there. There’s the New American Bible, New Jerusalem Bible, Revised Standard Version (in many forms), New Revised Standard Version, Douay-Rheims, and even the ones I’m familiar with like the New International Version and King James Version. I’m fairly familiar with Protestant translations, but I’m really not aware of the difference among Catholic translations. How do I know which is which? Are there any handy quick reference sites to Catholic translations of the Bible? Which are recommended for specific purposes?
