Well, everyone, it would appear that all has gone well with the psychological testing and interview part of my permanent deacon formation. I “made the cut,” and now have begun the program.

This past weekend, we all met together for the first time as a group. I was honored to be amongst such men! We do come from all walks of life. Most are older than I am (I just may be the youngest one in the group) and they convey this feeling to me of men who have lived much, done much, and really love God much.

We then had our first online class this past Monday. We are starting off with Intro to New Testament, and there is a lot of homework going into this. Most of us (myself included) are quite rusty when it comes to academic work, so I do hope they go a bit easy on us as we get into writing papers and contributing to class once again!

Overall, I am very grateful and humbled by the whole thing. I pray to God that I will be found worthy of this calling and be led to ordination in 2013.

With regret, I am not sure I can answer that, since confidentiality agreements were signed. I can assure you that the tests are nothing weird or unusual. Also, each diocese may do things differently, so I am not sure that one answer can cover across the board.

Anyway, it has only been one class so far, and I am getting ready for next week’s right now. But already I feel I have learned much. Again, we are starting with the New Testament, and it is very, very fascinating. Whoever says that Catholic don’t know the bible doesn’t know what he or she is talking about! It is very, very fascinating, especially in how scripture was put together and approved over time.
