The Church of Christ was founded by Thomas Campbell c.1827 in Kentucky U.S.A. Thats a long way from Palistine!

Im new everyone, but I would like to change the course of this thread from argument to discussion, please. I am engaged to a member of the Church of Christ. I have encountered the same things saintoneday has. My fiancee will only tell me that Christ started the church and that it is the first and only church and that the Catholic Church broke from them and not the historically true converse. I can not discuss or refute. When you try and put the burden of proof on them they only tell you that if it is not explicit in scripture then to do or believe what is not explicit in scripture then you are adding to God’s law (i.e. infant baptism, the priesthood, etc.) They are fundamentalist the believe the NT should be interpreted literally although I was at a service once where a preacher said Revelation was not to be interpreted literally. How do I approach the “adding” response and how do you refute their confused perception about history?

vmteglis,There are many threads on this nondenominational church .If you use the search feature you will find much information. They of course have about 7 different groups that go by this name.
You can refute the start of this group by mere history.Ask to have proof. Anne

Actually the Christian Church (disciples of Christ) was founded by a former Presbyterian minister in 1846. The so-called “churches of Christ” was founded sixty years later in the American Deep South by various dissadent members of the CC DOC (1906) who were opposed to pipe organs and missionary societies.

aSaintoneday:
I have been trying very hard to find the starting point of the “Church of Christ” (no not the Catholic Church), I cannot find which group or what person started this denomination, or the year that they were founded, or what country they were founded in.

They believe that they were started by Jesus Christ, but they fail to give their history for atleast 1500 years. I cannot find a straight answer about their history or who/when they were founded, besides them saying Jesus.

Their churches are in an autonomous state from each other, they also believe in shunning when one has fallen away from their church, also if someone fails to be converted that person is also shunned. They believe that since in the bible that it states “Church of Christ” this fully justifies them being the one true Church. All lethal force, even to protect you or your family is banned. All miracles ceased after the last apostle died. These are just a few of their beliefs that differ more than usual, from other protestants.

So if anyone out there can help me find, who founded the “Churches of Christ” and when. I would really appreciate that.

Please and thank you.
This group claims they were established in the year 33AD. They even have signs made that say this!I do not think they are very well educated in the area of history. They are the ones who have the burden to claim this true. God Bless!
