Aug. 29 (Gregorian) is the Feast of the Beheading of St. John the Baptist:

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

He died for speaking the truth about marriage: “It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother’s wife.”

St. John, pray for our bishops!

The scroll on the icon says: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

St John the Baptist, born without original sin, pray for us!

Not dogma, but many theologians have argued over the centuries, that while John was conceived with original sin, he was purified in the womb and born without it. ‘And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the babe [St. John the Baptist] leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.’ - Luke 1:41

Beautiful icon! I didn’t make it to Liturgy today because I was traveling. 😦

What an Icon
Although it seems to be a head short . . . 🤣

In all seriousness, the first, second and third finding of the head of John the Baptist are on the Eastern liturgical calendar . . . and there is an Orthodox Church caring for each those three relics . .

Hey! They’re on our Byzantine and Ukrainian Greek Catholic calendars too! 😖

It’s on our calendars, but we don’t have any of the heads. Err, any of the head. Hmm. Grammar isn’t meant for this . . .

🤣:roll_eyes:😱:crazy_face:

Did I just invent the “past perfect singular plural”?

😱:roll_eyes::crazy_face:
