For those of you who are godparents, what do you do to live out that role? Do any of you have exceptional godparents that have really supported your spiritual growth?
A. To see, as much as lies in them, that their godchildren may be brought up in the true faith, and in the fear of God; that they be timely instructed in the whole Christian doctrine, and that they make good those engagements which they have made in their name.
I make sure that I lead by example and educate my Godson properly. It’s not easy if they have parents who don’t practice their faith, but you must be willing to adapt to circumstances.
Not to brag but I have an AMAZING God Mother. Through out my whole life she’s been there for me. When I left the church she never forced the faith on me but instead lead by example and always gently reminded me that God loves me and eventually I came back to the church because of her. She encourages my faith and helps me grow every day, always showing me new literature and talks with me about the faith.
She has always helped my husband and I out if we needed it, often without us even asking. Once we had a tight month because of car trohble, we went in to pay something on our power bill so we wouldn’t get shut off only to find she zeroed out our bill for us. Today she showed up today for mass (we car pool) and she gave us dog food, cat food and groceries just because.
I believe she is an amazing example of a great Godparent and if I ever become a godparent I hope to be like her.
