If your tring to be a good Catholic influance for someone at what point do you just need to pray for them and walk away from them for good

Your question is a bit impossible to answer with the information given, but I will try to generalize in hopes that it helps. I saw no one had responded despite several views, and I suspect that is why.

You can be a good influence by mere example. Trying to intercede on another person’s free will - even if you think it is “for their own good” - is like trying to play God and is an attempt at control.

Feeling the need to “walk away for good” is a completely different subject in that context, isn’t it?

If someone is having a bad effect on you - being abusive, consistently making you feel bad, or if they’re just a bad influence on you, then I would say that’s the time to walk away. You don’t need to do it in an unkind way, of course - but actually sometimes by rejecting someone you can help them to question and change their behaviour (as it stops getting them the results they want).

Like the previous poster, I find it difficult to advise any better than this on such little info! You don’t mention if it’s a friend, family member or someone you’re romantically involved with or any of the specifics. But I hope what I’ve said may be helpful.

I try to be a good influence, too. But there are limits. Someone here at CAF said something that I wrote on a yellow sticky and stuck to my monitor:

GOD changes people.
I don’t.

It helps me see when I’m hitting my head against a brick wall. More importantly, it helps me see when I’m running on pride. (How can this person fail to see that I, the almighty and all-wise Ruthie, am RIGHT??!!)

Hope this helps. God bless you,

Ruthie
