What does one need to do to be considered a “good” Catholic?

There’s many aspects to this…live a life following Christ. Love God above all else. Love your neighbors. Avoid sin, and go to confession regularly. There are many other aspects as well, such as help the poor, avoid materialism, avoid the seven deadly sins, etc.,

Mother Angelica gives a quick list of rules to follow:

The Commandments—The Ten as given to Moses,

The Precepts of the Church,

The duties of our state in life,

Obedience to lawful authority—civil, family and church, and

The New Commandment, as given by Jesus to love one another.

I’m going to go with the six precepts of the Church:

1. To hear Mass on Sundays, and all Holy Days of Obligation.
2. To fast and obstain on the days commanded.
3. To confess our sins at least once a year.
4. To receive Holy Communion during the Easter time.
5. To contribute to the support of our pastors.
6. Not to solemnize marriage at the forbidden times; not to marry persons within certain degrees of kindred, or otherwise prohibited by the Church.

Becoming educated about what a ‘good’ Catholic is, and then. . .following ‘da rules’.

Read the Bible. Read the Catechism. See what Catholicism ‘is’, see what God has planned for us, and see what our responsibilities are to “know Him, love Him, and to serve Him in this world and the next.”
Pray. And do what He asks.
