I think this is more of an issue of you MIL feeling like she is losing her son. As you had stated that he was lacking in communication with his family, and as a mom imagine not speaking to you child. I think she is feeling that she and his family is being replaced with your family. And FB is just confirming it seeing and reading things. And your babies bond with your mom is natural is because lets face it daughters are close with their moms usually. I would have your hubby start calling his mom once a week just to say hi, I would even let him take a special picture of your baby and text it to his mom. Better yet if she sent a baby outfit, I would put that on and take the picture.
As far as letting her babysit, I would give it another try, but you and hubby need have a heart to heart talk with her and lay down the law. Just tell her your not doubting her parenting skills because hubby turned out so well. But it has been a long time since she had a baby and things have changed, and you and hubby want to do it your way. And have her agree to abide by your rules.
