I was wondering about the concept of allowing ourselves to be victims?

Now, I’m not sure on this, which is why I’m opening this thread for discussion.

Here’s a hypothetical example. A person you work with is making trouble for you by making false accusations against you.

Do you defend yourself, or remain silent?

This is just an example and I’m sure I could come up many more.

I feel that one of my weaknesses, is that I fight for my rights and my defense(even sometimes when I’m wrong. 🙂 ).

I ask myself, what would Jesus do? He allowed himself to be a victim at his arrest, but it doesn’t seem to be the case earlier, when He defended his positions and accusations by the Pharisees.

So, what is best way to handle false accusations or other forms of assaults?

In the situation you mention.

First go to person and try to have a talk with them.

If that doesn’t work then you may have to get a third party, such as your supervisor, to sit down and mediate.

Christ’s example in the Garden, it doesn’t seem to have an application to the situation you used as an example.

No answers, but more (hypothetical) questions…

Is there a grave injustice being committed?
Does the injustice involve anyone other than you?
Would there be consequences to the employer if the lies are not refuted?
Would you lose your job if the lies are not refuted?
If so, is it fair to your family to remain quiet?
What about the duty of fraternal correction?
Can you distinguish between defending the truth and defending yourself?

Jesus allowed others to arrest Him, but He defended Himself by telling the Truth in His Loving way. Thus, you would do just that. 🙂

WOW! What a GREAT answer! Thank YOU…

I think having to defend yourself from the position of Love is our greatest challenge, don’t you?

Jesus needed to make a statement, and the place to make His statement was “in the lions mouth”.

He was NEVER a victim in the sense of being out of control or helpless.

They wanted His obedience. When that became impossible for them to get, they settled for His Body.

The message He had was that Truth is more important than body.

Should you put your “body” on the line for the Truth?

I think so. Defend your “Truth” with your “body” (your comfort). Does remaining silent buy your “body” (comfort) at the price of your “Truth”?

If you’re wrong, admit that cheerfully and take that weapon away from your “opponent”.

But if you’re not wrong, how is Truth served by timidity?

As above, He was never a “helpless out-of-control” victim. He was a self-sacrificing perfect faultless “victim”.

Who could do anything to God that He would not allow?

Never allow yourself to be a helpless dominated victim.

Be contrite. Confess. Do your penance. Sin no more. Your enemies will have no power over you after that.

Sound familiar? 🙂

yes, it is the hardest task - we can see that for ourselves in other forums of this website. That is why one of the suggestion from admin is to select the forum wisely. 😃
