Hi! So I was wondering if it is ok to be alone with my guy friend at his house? Both of us are single and he doesn’t think of me that way, I DID have a crush him at one point but I 100% do not anymore. I’ve been alone with him before like in the car and in his room while his family was in the other room (door open 🙂 ). I’ve never felt the urge to do anything or have had any temptations, and I was just wondering if it would be ok to hang out with him by ourselves at his house. I don’t want to cause a scandal or anything, I was just wondering if it’s ok. Thank you 🙂

EDIT: I thought I’d mention that I am 19 and my friend is 23

Lots of people have friends of the opposite sex. If people read into that that you guys are fornificating, that is their problem, not yours.

ETA, so you are young adults.

A bit of insight, at this age, it is very easy to become the “in case of emergency” girl. It is possible for young men and women to be friends, but, it is difficult to compartmentalize the feelings.

Why are you two not romantically involved?

I just don’t see him that way anymore and I think I’m not really his type anyways. We became friends because we are both Catholic.

I have an adult son.

He is so kind and genuine, when he was in his early teens and early 20’s, there were young ladies who he felt “mom they are just friends” and I would warn “no, they are pining for you” and each time, the young lady got hurt because she thought that someday he would want to be romantically involved with them.

Make sure that you are not pining, that your relationship is clearly defined, and then if you can both handle it, be friends!

Thank you very much for your time. I feel confident that he doesn’t like me this way, he even had a girlfriend for a bit while we were friends. I just wanted to make sure that it wasn’t an occasion of scandal if I were to be alone with him. 🙂

hanging out here doesn’t sound like you mean overnight, but just normal hanging out, like you would at a park, library, friend’s house, or walking down the street

I’d say it’s fine, especially since you say you’re not attracted to him any more, nor he you.
catholic adults can absolutely still hang out with their friends during the day, just be prudent!

@TheLittleLady ‘s advice is excellent. So long as the relationship is clearly defined and you are both on the same page I think you are fine to hang out on your own. You are both adults.

A word of caution, I once had a valuable friendship ruined by hangout out together. He had designs on being more than friends. He decided to “make his move” while we were alone. Unfortunately for him, I did not feel the same. Talk about awkward.

Do you remain is it? homosexually inclined?

I don’t see a problem as long as all of you understand. My two best friends are females and my wife knows of them. As long as boundaries are understood clearly, it’s okay.
That said, my time with them is limited.
