Being fruitful...for others

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

These words written by St. Faustina, can encourage us to keep striving, by God’s Grace for the holiness to which we are called – not only for ourselves but that we may be fruitful for others. St. Faustina was completing a retreat during which she received grace to see how God’s Love was working in her soul:

1. Now I can be wholly useful to the Church by my personal sanctity, which throbs with life in the whole Church, for we all make up one organism in Jesus. That is why I endeavor to make the soil of my heart bear good fruit. Although the human eye may perhaps never see it, there will nevertheless come a day when it will become apparent that many souls have been fed and will continue to be fed with this fruit.

By God’s grace let us continue to ask, that we may receive the graces we need to be made fruitful by His Love. We cannot give what we do not have ourselves, but we can keep asking with faith and perseverance, and cooperating with every grace we receive. Let us continue to seek His Love, and find it waiting for us as the Father awaited the prodigal son’s return. Let us keep knocking until He opens the door to us.

That is so beautiful … I read St. Faustina’s book on Divine Mercy years ago … sounds like it’s time for a re-read. Thank you for posting this.

What a joy to read your reply, my dear sister in Jesus and Mary, Casilda!

My weekend was a hard one too, but St. Faustina is always a blessing so I’m doubly grateful to the Lord for continuing her fruitfulness to you as well. Let us by God’s grace be God’s blessing as Mary our humble Mother and all the saints who are so fruitful.

Let us, by His Grace, never stop knocking on the door of His Heart, and trusting Him – even when no human eyes (including our own) “see” our hidden fruitfulness. God is faithful and does wonders in and through humble souls. He works ALL things unto good… (cf Rom 8:28)

This is not my first reading of the “Diary” – I always find more when reading any passage of Scripture or any spiritual classic for a second or third time. There is such a depth we need to plumb, and we need prayerfully to keep asking, in order to receive, seeking in order to find, and knocking in order for the door to be opened for us by God.

The Year of Mercy seemed a perfect time for me to re-read the Diary. I hope you will begin to re-read and be blessed more and more by God through His humble little daughter and Mary’s child, St. Faustina.

Ah but, dear Katherine, all of us have been given the Light of Christ – the Holy Spirit enlightens all of us, so let us all thank Him for His Light shining through us. It is good also sometimes to thank people as we receive their unique gifts from God, but let us always be mindful of the True Giver of Gifts, to each of us.

I’m saying this because I think there may be “lurkers” who read our posts who never think they have anything to offer but everyone has been created in the Image and Likeness of God as a unique and unrepeatable gift for the world. No two persons (not even identical twins) are exactly the same for each of us is called to holiness and to reflect God – Who is Love – in a unique way. Perhaps God wants them to begin to “shine” on CAF or in some way. St. John Paul II said so often: "Be not afraid! Open wide the doors of your hearts to Christ!)

Jesus revealed to us in His sermon on the Mount: “Let your Light so shine before men that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father Who is in heaven” (Mt 5:16). Even saints like St. Faustina and St. Therese who lived rather hiidden in their convents, let their light shine in their loving acts toward others in their convents, and certainly in their writings which continue to let Christ shine through their words.

Let us all pray each day, especially to the Holy Spirit, given to bring us into all truth (cf John 16:13) that we may truly bring the Light of Christ into the darkness around us. Thanks so much for your reply, which encouraged me to write more.
