You’re missing the point in my analogy. It’s not about alternative solutions; it’s that the solutions I keep getting (pray more) aren’t going to work.

So one more time: DO NOT SUGGEST THAT PRAYER IS THE SOLUTION! THAT SUGGESTION IS OF NO USE TO ME!
Alrighty then: try narcotics, or sex, or any other pleasure. If you want, try the Eastern religions. No, seriously. You won’t try to pray, or follow any of the suggestions here nor your counselors and doctors? Fine, do whatever you want; it is the inevitable conclusion to what you want.

No man can live without joy. That is why one deprived of spiritual joy goes over to carnal pleasures. – St Thomas Aquinas

You know, faith is like a parachute, you cannot feel it help you, cannot feel it support you until you make that leap of faith, to let go of your preconceptions and cynicisms.

You are in my prayers.

Maybe it will bring you comfort that so many saints and blesseds have suffered as you do. You are not alone, and God must have a plan in this suffering. Mother Theresa was one who suffered as such, so did the Little Flower.

I’m very interested in hearing what you have to say about my last post, Lost_Sheep.

Your analogy about praying for someone to bring some gas to me is great - if you are confident that God will hear you and deliver someone in a timely manner.

Problem is, I have no such confidence.

If I ran out of gas, I would just start walking. I would walk the Way of St James again. Six weeks of walking in Spartan conditions can reset all the buttons: physical, mental and religious.

That being said, I should qualify that I am not a mental health professional and that you should check with your physician before embarking on such a journey.

Dear Lost_Sheep,

Why have you no confidence in God’s wisdom, almighty power, supreme goodness, and loving Providence? Because he is all-wise he will always do what he knows to be best for you; because he is almighty and supremely good he is perfectly capable of doing what is best for you and always will do what is best for you; and because of his loving Providence he will always care for you and your future in the best way. Why must you doubt his wisdom, almighty power, supreme goodness and loving Providence? Do you doubt that he possesses these attributes? Is this why you have no confidence in him? or do you have no confidence in him because you think you fail him too much and too often and thus should not be heard and helped by him?

Yes I do believe all that, and that is what is so frustrating. He has all the power in the universe; you’d think he would help me out a little.

And they have Youtube blocked here at work; I’ll check it out when I get home.

I do believe this: With one wave of His mighty hand, He could make everything right with my life. Yet He refuses to do so. The Bible says “Ask and you shall receive” and “With God all things are possible.” That’s all that matters to me; everything else is a waste of ink.

I guess the bottom line here is: 1) that what you think is best for you is not what he thinks is best for you, and 2) when you pray and ask him for what you think is best for you he can only answer your prayers with what he knows is best for you. Agreed?

That’s a fair assessment.

I’ve put my faith in God before and it didn’t work out too well.

Can’t you put your faith in the supernatural truth that God will always answer your prayers in the best way possible for you?

But you believe that he is all-wise, all-powerful, all-good with divine Providence. Why can you not trust that he will always do what is best for you? Is it because in the past you have found that he does not do what is best for you? If your answer is yes, then I must reply that he knows better than you what is good for you – he is God and is your loving Father, a Father who knows best. You’re just his child, don’t you see? … a child does not know what is best for himself like a father knows.

Be that as it may, He hasn’t been very forthcoming about it.

I guess I’m just supposed to wallow in my misery until He decides to get off his great big fat omnipotent arse and finally does something.

You truly need to go to confession. We should never EVER speak about our Lord the way you have just done. You will be in my prayers. I don’t think there is much more I can do here other than ask you to watch the video I have recommended. God bless you.

There is a right way to ask and a wrong way to ask. You just executed the perfectly wrong way to ask. God responds to faith AND humility. He rejects pride and lack of faith.

Because you can not accept no for an answer and are particularly insulting as well, chances of God agreeing with you or doing anything in your favor is minimal.

If you were to approach your boss or supervisor or anyone for that matter, with such an attitude, you would get fired or rejected on the spot. God responds to folks with humble and contrite hearts. You have neither, that is a recipe for disaster. I pray you can develop a little bit of faith and trust, and a change of heart as well.

Dear Lost_Sheep,

I agree with wcknight wholeheartedly and also pray that you can develop a little bit of faith and trust, and a change of heart as well. God bless you.

Dear Lost_Sheep,

The Scriptures says that without faith we can not be pleasing to God. Maybe God is punishing you for your lack of faith. Don’t you think that you should at least pray for faith, even if it hurts you to do it. Often we need to go through serious pain before we can be where we are supposed to be in the spiritual life. Like they say: no pain, no gain. Are you just going to wallow in your suffering murmuring against the good Lord for doing what he needs to do to you in order to get you to shape up and change your very bad attitude? You honestly have a problem with your attitude towards God and I mean this with no disrespect. Friend, only you can change your attitude, nobody else in the world can no matter how many times they send you posts… so please make the resolution at this very moment to stop your bad attitude towards God and beg his forgiveness. Or will you put off begging his forgiveness until it is Judgment Day and way too late!:o
