Being in the military

Seriously? Everything a military organization commands is coherent with Christian/Catholic teaching?

This is not what the Catholic Church teaches.

And as a Navy veteran, and Catholic, I know it’s not true to my faith.

Read all that I wrote. Do not take one sentence out of context. A soldier must follow commands, has taken an oath of obedience. However, he/she must also follow conscience. Merely following commands is not a defense for immoral actions. Obedience means “to listen.” Our obedience is first and foremost to God and may demand disobedience to an immoral (illegal) order.
I do not know of a job, military or civilian, does not carry with it an agreement to follow orders.

The difference is, with the military vs. civilian, is that military personnel take an oath to follow commands (not the same as en employment contract, particularly in the violation of such).

Military personnel are not able to selectively disobey this or that order, this or that war, etc.

Sorry if I misread or misunderstood you. Thank you for the clarification.

My point is that military personnel do not have the same latitude that civilians do, at least regarding consequences.

Military personnel cannot simply quit, or deny a lawful command, without incurring penal action.

“Orders” in the military are distinctly different than “orders” in civilian employment. I know, I’ve worked in both.
