Is it, according to Church teaching, inherently bad to not be strictly pro-life, but rather neutral on abortion? I find it best to not align myself with a specific side.

Please no debate, just want an answer.

Are you neutral about weather or not you should be murdered?

By being neutral, you’re essentially rejecting the Catholic teaching. Which would be wrong to do as a Catholic.

I know you don’t want a debate, so I won’t try to engage in one. But I will strongly encourage you to look into the truth about abortion. It is so much more despicable than what the popular media portrays and I believe that if you’re aware of the dark truths in the abortion industry then you will eagerly join the pro-life cause.

Really you’re aligning yourself with ‘pro-choice’ Catholics as in you in theory wouldn’t have an abortion yourself but you support others choice whatever it may be. There really is no neutral position in this issue.

I agree with the above.

Abortion is against the 5th commandment and is a grave sin against God. Nothing neutral about it.

Note that this is the same poster who said that Planned Parenthood is a good thing (but criticized the abortion practice)
Planned Parenthood is a good thing, though. They do good things for women’s health. Abortion is reprehensible, yes, but that’s only 3% of what they do. They do cervical cancer screenings and care for maternal health and provide emergency contraception. They’re a good thing.
Everybody on that thread denounced what this poster said. Some very angrily. He/she made just that single post.

While not a Catholic theologian, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had some pretty wise words
The hottest place in Hell is reserved for those who remain neutral in times of great moral conflict.

Neutral is not an option because a death occurs each time.

Sadly, many people wished to remain “neutral” (indifferent) about the mass slaughter of Jews and other so-called “undesireables” seven decades ago.

Do you not love God enough to care for the most vulnerable of our unborn brothers and sisters, who are each treasured by our Creator?

It’s hard to buck the culture. The culture around us is always VERY persuasive in ways we barely notice and haven’t really even yet begun to understand.

Using the analogy approach suggested by others above is useful. Plenty of people tried to be “neutral” on the issue of slavery back in the 1850’s. School children look back on them today with contempt (I sure did), because it is clear in hindsight that the position was a dodge, not a principled stand. It was the easy way out.

People tried to be neutral when the Nazis first rose to power, even if they found them distasteful. That didn’t work out too well.

Anybody neutral about civil rights in the 1960’s was de-facto supporting segregation. Surely you can see that? It’s the same with abortion. You can’t know what abortion IS and turn your eyes and pretend not to notice that it’s an abomination. You must decide to either be an enabler or to work to end it. There is no safe middle ground.

By being neutral on abortion you are actually on the side of satan. Please get off the fence on this one…you are being seduced by him!!
May the Holy Spirit guide you.

Yes. You can’t possibly be neutral on whether it is morally right for someone to be alive or dead. There is no middle ground on that in this life.

We can be ignorant about abortion (this doesn’t include willed ignorance), but we can’t be neutral if we know that abortion is the most heinous kind of murder one can possibly commit. Think about it. An absolutely innocent baby murdered and torn limb from limb and decapitated. It’s a sin that cries to God for justice. How can anyone be neutral about that? The answer is either ignorance or the person is just plain wicked.

“I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of my mouth.” - Revelation 3:15-16

“The moral gravity of procured abortion is apparent in all its truth if we recognize that we are dealing with murder…” - Pope John Paul II, Evangelium Vitae 58

A thousand words will probably be meaningless to you if you’ve never seen a picture of an abortion. One has to know what abortion is to know how hideously evil it is. I recommend doing a Google image search using the word “abortion”. I used to be neutral on abortion because I had no idea what an abortion is. But that changed instantly one day when I stumbled on a picture of an abortion while online. I instantly understood why one can’t be neutral on abortion.

Agree on this
