A couple of questions here; the first more important:
  1. Why does the Church favor Theodotion’s revision over the LXX manuscript. This seems rather extraordinary to me for some reason.
  2. What exactly does the dragon refer to? Is it some sort of a large snake, or is it more probable that the author intends some sort of exotic or actual legendary beast to be understood? This doesn’t really matter, I suppose the point is just to provide a second type of “living god” for Daniel to expose as false. But just out of curiosity…

Ver. 22. Dragon. The devil had seduced our first parents in the form of a serpent, and caused most nations to adore it. C. — They expected benefit, or to be preserved from harm.

So it was just kind of like an animal worship thing, huh. I guess that’s just as logical as worshiping a statue of Bel… kind of makes me wonder why the king was so confident in Daniel’s credulity. There are tons of snakes out there
 
Don’t think of serpent as a snake in the common sense but some diabolical monster.

Serpent etymology is creeping thing.

Dragon means serpent, the literal sense is “the one with the (deadly) glance.”
