There are many Xians who believe that accepting Jesus as their personal lord and savior is all there is to Xianity. There are many denominations who accept this belief.

I’m wondering, then, how those who believe this choose a denomination.

Does it matter which “born again” church you belong to really?

If not, how did you choose?

If it does matter, what is the difference between the various 'born again" denominations?

Well your Roman catholic from *before *you were born if you have catholic parents. you will attend a catholic school and have catholicism stamped into your psyche before you have oppotunity to think independently. It’s a age old, and very effective method of retention.
All humans are Muslims, but those brought up under other religions “see the light” and “revert” to Islam.
In Catholisism, if you leave, you are sent to hell when you die.
In Islam, your sent to hell straight away.

Hence their method is > yours 🙂

Tommi, I recommend you look at people’s signature lines. Those of us who say “Tiber Swim Team” are converts to Catholicism. (“Swimming the Tiber” is a joking way of saying so.)

I chose Catholicism as a mature adult raised in a secular family. I chose the Church because I investigated her beliefs and found her to have the truth.

Oops,

Sorry, Kalt, I should know better than to participate in hijacking a thread! I had a stoopid knee-jerk reaction!

Other posters, please don’t follow my example.

Abashed,

Ruthie

Oh I’m not denying that some people find theism in later life, and theres a world of difference from the born-catholic who goes to church and takes the eucharist with thought and devotion rather than, “hey, this is all I know, this is what i do”.

Every act of faith is a renewal. It makes no difference if you were “born into” a religion. As an adult, you make a conscious decision every time you walk into your church.

Just wondering how people who belong to “born again” only churches choose their denominations. Many seem to church hop, and I’m wondering, if the core belief is the same, how they choose.

Like most theological questions - there is a broad disparity of viewpoints among Protestants on these questions. Since coming to faith, I’ve believed that all Christians are part of the mystical body of Christ and thus all Christians who share the core doctrines of Christianity (Christ is Messiah, Lord and Savior; Christ’s resurrection, the coming day of judgement and inerrancy of scripture) are all brothers and sisters in Christ. With that view point, whether tounges is a true gift of the spirit (AOG), or one believes in infant baptism v. adult baptism; or pre-tributation rapture v. post tribulation rapture, etc., were not ultimately significant in terms of salvation and thus denomination choosing was based upon your viewpoint on many of these issues but utlimately not of much consequence. I have found, in experience, however, that many do not hold these views and there is tremendous infighting (often) among Protestant denominations. The splintering of the Anglican Church into ultimately over 30,000 different denominations is a troubling indicia to me that perhaps the concept of apostolic succesion holds water. I’ve been studying that out and praying about that often (and did come to the belief in the last couple of months that this is scripturally sound).

Bottom line - I don’t think you will find a uniform answer to your questions (but all good questions) 🙂

BTW - I continue to believe that all Christians who hold those enumerated truths in their heart are, with Catholics who hold the same belief, all brothers/sisters in Christ. I’m exploring the Catholic viewpoint that the sacraments and submission to Rome are necessary for more perfect unity with Christ and obedience.

Blessings,

Brian
