Is there life on other planets? Please explain. Personally I dont think there is, and I got into a discussion on it. Please tell me the Catholic teaching on this, thank you.

I think there is no life on other planets.

If there is life, it is essentially irrelevant as Jesus came to us on Earth to save us from our sins.

Also i think there might have been some mention of it or at least an allusion to it in the creation story if it were true. The massiveness of the universe i think is to teach us we are small compared to God who created more than we could ever hope to explore and learn about.

Why do you believe there would there be a Catholic teaching?
I thought there might be a teaching on the subject. I didn’t know if Jesus or the bible ever said anything about it?

I believe the likelihood is that there is life, and even intelligent life, on other planets, given the immensity of the universe, or multiverse. According to Judaism, even if extraterrestrial life does exist–and there is at least one indication of its existence in the Hebrew Bible (Book of Judges)–it would not change the fact that the Torah was given to us humans alone, and in particular the Jewish people, to teach us how to behave toward others in a morally humane way. According to Christianity, even if extraterrestrial life does exist, it would not change the fact that Jesus died for the sins of humanity and was resurrected for the salvation of us humans alone. It does seem curious, however, that both Judaism and Christianity claim that we humans are the only ones chosen by G-d for redemption out of the whole universe. An alien observer would probably think us arrogant in that respect even though–perhaps because–we do not claim to merit such redemption.

There is nothing in Scripture concerning this issue.

Personally, I could not care less. I’ll believe in such beings when I see them.

The closest thing would be the Devil and his angels that were cast out of heaven and now live in our domain. The Angels (both God’s and the fallen) have a lot to do with the stars/cosmos, but that knowledge is lost and is confused as may be indicated by the non-inspired non-canonical Book of Enoch (although the Book of Enoch is quoted in scripture).

Certainly there is life - in abundance on other Planets.

See here for the ‘Glasy Tubes’ on Mars and other interesting items.

One can go to Nasa Web site and see the phots in the video as well.

So. Does Alien Life disprove the Christian God? No. When we humans accepted the fact the the sun does not revolve around the Earth we eventually began to learn just how magnificent God is.

See here; for life on Mars. youtube.com/watch?v=I8cNLoA6Nh8 one has to get to minute 13 first.

Same with UFO’s methinks.

Doesn’t CS Lewis have a fiction trilogy about this? I forget what it’s called though. In that story, humans were the only ones that fell from grace, so only we needed to be redeemed, pretty interesting. Been a while since I’ve read it though. Anyone else heard or read these books?

You are right on the money! I think the science fiction fans and other assorted trekies really go off on the deep end sometimes, confusing fantasy with reality and true science with science fiction.

The Bible doesn’t speak about physics, gravity, or chemistry either. But are they irrelevant to our world? There are lots of things not covered in scripture. Electricity, cars, bacteria, antibiotics, and MRI’s.

Just because the Bible has mentioned doesn’t mean they aren’t relevant. 👍

Yes, the space trilogy perlandra, out of the silent planet, and the name of the third escapes me.

Happy new year and a merry Christmas

As of now maybe or no but, if there is other intelligent life out there a sacrament by name of baptism exists.

Hope this helps
Merry Christmas
God bless

There is no reason to believe there is life on other planets. Until we find any, then, but not now.

Humans and angels are the only intelligent creatures in existence.

Oh *yes? *I find this link, dealing with the Nasa Imaging as presented by Dr. Tom Van Flandern, former Chief Astronomer for the United States Naval Observatory, rather convincing. See below

youtube.com/watch?v=I8cNLoA6Nh8 or the short version here: youtube.com/watch?v=EgQs8qDX2Ms

I reiterate tho… one must skip forward to approx ‘minute 12 and 30 seconds’ to get to the informative part of the lecture in regard to link 1

I always find it interesting that many Catholics feel threatened by the reality of other worldly life. Perhaps they* think* it violates the Christian Paradigm. 🤷 No… methinks it is actually the contrary.

There was a Vatican astronomer who did an interview entitled “The alien is my brother.”

Two years ago another priest said he would baptize an alien into the faith. Think of what such a powerful evangelism moment that would be if we converted a race of ET’s to Christ.

Don’t hold your breath, we haven’t done too good a job with our own “race” yet.

And, theologically, we don’t know that a world of nonhumans would even need salvation.
