Well, not a whole bunch, but Josephus certainly did.
No he didn’t. Again I am 95% certain that many biblical scholars agree that the part in Josephus’s writing about Jesus was forged, He was a Jewish through and through so him saying about Jesus being the messiah doesn’t fit a very traditional Jewish person.

Doesn’t he say that some folks said he was the messiah. Josephus himself didn’t say that. He’s simply reporting what was attested to by Christians.

Hi guys, please help me come up with good arguments/refutations against this article. It has really shaken my believe in the Christian God as I used to believe strongly and rely on the testimony of the 12 apostles. Now, if that is shaken… I dont know what to believe in anymore.

James this is very easy to debate and one key point destroys it.
  1. Who first found the tomb of Christ empty
  2. Who saw the risen Christ first ?
The answer to both is the women . Now why is the women finding both the tomb empty and seeing the risen Christ first important ?

It speaks volumes to the apostles sincerity of their claim .

A woman’s testimony was worth less then dirt back then . Heck women couldn’t testify against men in court .

If the apostles were lying about Christ why would they tell a first century Jewish audience that it was the women that found the tomb empty or saw the risen Christ first . The simple answer is that the apostles were telling the truth

I’ll post a very good link from Gary habermas on this

Small problem with this. There are many different and conflicting versions of who found what. It can be argued that the followers snuck to the tomb and took the body because the end of Mark is left with the women running away, in the original version. The others Gospels also have just varying accounts as to who met the women, which women where there, ect.

I find this link suspect–if the author doesn’t even know how to spell “scholars” correctly, how much, er, scholarship does he really have?

And the link doesn’t refute what I said, which is that Josephus was simply reporting what others said.

In fact, your link affirms what I said.
Okay but it still has been greatly embellished.

I don’t put credence in sites that contain misspellings, either.

I can’t agree with “greatly” only “somewhat.” Josephus still mentioned Jesus, which adds to his historicity.
If anything there was someone named Yeshua. That is all. As far as we know the Yeshua Josephus talked about is some other person. The embellishment may come from the dying on the cross part. We are not certain. But even if there is a Yeshua all that proves is someone by that name lived then. Nothing more or less.

“The real Bible has disappeared in favour of the Bible as it is thought it ought to be. The same is true of Jesus. The Jesus of the Gospels is thought to have been transformed into a Christ of faith considerably altered by the requirements of dogma. Behind this reconstruction we are supposed to find the real Jesus of the logia, or sayings, or of some other supposed source. This ‘real’ Jesus neither says nor does anything else but what we want Him to do and say….The resurrection becomes nothing more than an ‘experience’ of the disciples through which Jesus, or, at any rate, His ‘presence’, continues. Events are not subject to examination; it is rather the consciousness of the disciples and of ‘the community’ that is subjected to examination. The certitude of faith is replaced by confidence in an historical hypothesis. This way of proceeding is most irritating….It seems to be congealed within the framework of a particular intellectual world which may no longer even exist.” [See *The Hebrew Christ, Claude Tresmontant, Foreword by Bishop John Charles Thomas, Franciscan Herald Press, 1989].

The facts are that the 1964 Magisterial Instruction on the *Historical Truth of the Gospels *from the PBC teaches concerning the Apostles:
“However there is no reason to deny the fact that the apostles, in telling their listeners about our Lord’s deeds and words, utilized the fuller understanding which they had acquired from the glorious events of Christ’s life14 and the guidance of, the Spirit of truth.15 After His resurrection Jesus Himself "interpreted to them"16 His own words and those of the Old Testament.17 In a similar manner they explained His deeds and words according to the needs of their audience.

That is heartening to see you acknowledge this.

Those who don’t even believe that a man named Jesus walked the earth are in the same category as those who don’t believe we landed on the moon.

Nary a sane, reputable scholar denies that Jesus walked the earth.

You are misquoting me here. There is still a lot of evidence that states that there was no Jesus. Again we don’t know what exactly Josephus said because of elaboration. It isn’t safe to assume that he mean the Jesus he wrote about is the same as the one in the Gospels.

Jesus was the only Yeshua who had a discipleship who was being martyred.

We actually have more evidence for the Jesus of history than we do for Alexander the Great, yet no one doubts his existence.

Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. What evidence is there that Jesus never existed? I am a professor of theology, and I don’t think there is any evidence that he did not exist.
