A quick question before tonight’s mass, during the Gloria of the Vigil of Christmas, would acolytes begin ringing the Sanctus bells as if it was the Gloria of the Easter Vigil?

I think they do at the Easter Vigil Mass but not sure about Christmas. I think they would since the Gloria reflects on the Angels message to the shepherds, but maybe it depends on the pastor.

Never seen this at Christmas Mass. During Triduum the bells are silenced after Holy Thursday’s Gloria. There is no equivalent silencing of the bells during Advent.

happened at the Vigil tonight outside Nashville…didn’t affect the Mass in my eyes…no more than the banjos playing with the choir…very different to me, yet still very reverent and joyous.

Don’t see why not - we’ve been without the Gloria throughout Advent and now we’re echoing announcing the joyous (and glorious) news of Christ’s birth. it seems to me that this should be something more than just any Ordinary Time Gloria.

Bell ringing would be optional, depending on the pastor on the Christmas Masses. I do not know the rationale behind ringing the bells during the Gloria on other days aside from Holy Thursday and the Vigil of Easter, but I was taught to reserve also the bell ringing during feast days, Easter and Xmas

Yes, they did so at my parish–at the Mass on Christmas morning. I don’t recall them doing this before, but they did so this year.

We don’t in my parish I might inter introduce that it’s a good idea
