Bellocian “prophesy”, or: Heresy as Sword

OK,… a strange thought from my goofy mind:

Perhaps God’s plan is to allow the Heresies (see Belloc) so as to prepare God’s people (the Church) to have and use the weaponry which only they (heretics) could develop, so that we (Christendom if not “The Church” proper) can eventually combat the REAL long term threat to God’s people…?

What got me thinking this strangeness was reading Belloc’s “The Great Heresies”, and his “Survivals and New Arrivals”.

It may be that Arianism, and the “pick and choose what works for you” heresies were needed to establish a psychological “basis” for the “great work” of creating a “weaponry forge” which only “heretics” could use to create the “arms” that would be needed later, in the “great battle”.

It may be true that ONLY the protestant culture could have, within the required timeframe, developed the “arms” themselves capable of dealing with “the enemy”.

It may be that the present “modern mind” heresies are the only “bait” with which to effectively draw in “the enemy” in the “correct way” so as to have them expose themselves such that they could be “fatally wounded”.

Perhaps, as I suspect, I’ve been reading Belloc too much, and am being quite phantasmagorical…!?

But, perhaps our “heretical brothers” are our “Egypt”?

Perhaps our “modern mind” is our “Wandering in the Desert”?

I’m not even sure who “the Enemy” is, as it may be what is behind the “bad parts” of islam, or maybe not.

At any rate, just interested in other’s thoughts on the basic idea of God bringing greater good out of seemingly senseless evil, using the amazingly accurate insights of H. Belloc, circa early 1900’s.

God ALLOWS evil so as to draw a greater good. In effect, the repeated manifestations of the fallen nature are inevitable, seeing as St. Paul implies this with, “for the mystery of iniquity is already at work, mind you, provided that he who is restraining, does still restrain, until he is gotten out of the way.”

Hence, only when the fallen nature manifests itself in a final incurable manner, can no further spiritual good be attained in human history.

But, yes, the mystics agree with you: behold, the illuminative way of the saint, traversed by the Jews themselves after the Exodus and before the Exile, is quite likely a type of the last 1700 years, in the sense that, as the saint gradually delves deeper into the truths of God in the process of illumination, the world around him becomes ever darker spiritually. Hence, the last 1700 years is the inevitable progressive spiritual darkening that must come on account of the fallen nature. But alas, this darkness is NOT incurable, even as the dark night of the soul is not the last trial of the saint. For behold, eventually the saint emerges from the dark night, the revelation he received is vindicated, and he enters the unitive phase, in which he becomes “perfect”, his will utterly ONE with the WIll of God.

Hence, the necessary progression of spiritual depravity is ordered, attacking the sources of the Divine Truth from top to bottom: the Trinity and Incarnation (initial heresies, Islam), the Pope (the Great Schism), the General Bishops and Oral Trad (Protestantism), the Scriptures (the Enlightenment), and, finally, even Reason, the final source (the modern minor apostasy).

But even though this digression is inevitable given the fallen nature and its tendencies, God can draw a GREATER GOOD! For behold, in the coming chastisement, ALL of the non-Catholic deficiencies, from the Islamic to the Protestant, to the relativistic hedonist, shall be shown FOR WHAT THEY ARE, so that what was hitherto regarded as light will be seen for the darkness of what it truly is (there are even TEMPORAL consequences for errors of morals and faith), so that humanity will rediscover the truth it had shed.

Hence, when the world almost ends in a manner which manifests the consequences of all errors in belief and wrong-doing, so then humanity shall come back to the light in all its fullness and with such vigor that it will make the Middle Ages look like atheism. Indeed, in God having allowed the progressive spiritual darknesses to come as they must, he uses the consequences as a means of vindicating ALL the light, and ushering in nothing short of a sabbath like rest for the People of God, and for humanity, that is, the mystics AGE OF PEACE.

Hmmm,… how starnge, and “strange” even, to have someone agree with me…!

I’m most definitely interested in whatever literature you may have on the subject.

A rather odd confluence of things that just happened to be passing through my mind simultaneously was the “cause” of this weird thinking,… namely, a bizarre idea for the implementation of a “religious mechanism” within the online game “Eve” (www.eve-online.com), and my recent “discovery” of Belloc’s musings.

My age is post-47 and pre-55, which is all I’ll grant to you as my actual age, thank you very much, and I’m NOT a degenerate MMO gamer, as I always got tired of the sociopathic pathology that it induced in gamers,…

…BUT,… the idea of having a dynamic within an online game that “mimics” the effect of religion on the society of gamers in-game very much intrigued me.

(( I actually DO have a sketch of a mechanism that might actually work to that effect, but can’t see the developers implementing it for various political and financial reasons. ))

After reading the amazingly AMAZING (excuse the Zaphod-ism) clarity of Belloc’s veritable predictions in the two books mentioned above, it occured to me that what he was really describing was a “mechanism” by which the “forces of evil” were being used against each other to culminate in some resounding “crash” of forces that neutralized the forces (evil in themselves) without harming the apparent “target” of those forces.

Somewhat like the creation of an artificial diamond by arranging the crushing forces to cancel each other while only transforming the base “carbon-goo” into “precious diamond”.

I don’t know, of course, but I rather think that the coming “crash” won’t be the “final” apocalypse, but just another in a series of smallish ones that happen every now and then. Though, this one could be pretty big considering the “globalness” of the forces at play at the moment.

Anyway,… tell me what you know about, and what you think of this very odd subject…!
