Many false idols are held up today. For Christians to be faithful, they can’t be afraid to go against the current

guys, what are todays false idols? explain lease?
 
Anything you make more important than God is a false idol.

Athletics and politics could fit this description, to cite only two examples.

(There is nothing inherently evil about either. It is in making these things more important than God where we find the idolatry.)

The favorites for our modern culture, IMO, seem to be science and self. I am a scientist and I cannot tell you how much faith and belief is infused in the way students and colleagues…and the general public, think about science. But most distressing is the it proves the non existence of God. It does not because it can not.

I use the scientific method every day. I'd like to see that experiment.
Next, is self. I’m OK. your OK. I see worse people on the news or the Springer show, so I must be alright. I mean I do a little of this or that, but its no big deal
Factor in the shopping around for values like a good little consumer because these things please me (maybe this is starting to sound like our cafeteria Catholic friends). I pick and choose what I eat. The care I drive. The house I live in. So why not the moral teachings and Christian values that are consistent with my lifestyle.

You can see the center isn’t God anymore. Bt self. God should please me…is backwards. Some do this to such an extreme they want to rewrite the Bible and reword, delete things so certain things aren’t sins. I’m not making that up…queen James bible…

I agree science (even inaccurate studies) and self (what feels good must be good) theories are the Gods of today. I see it all over my college, my professors, my fellow students. Sad day.
