I’ve been to Poughkeepsie. The entire city would have fallen into the Hudson River long ago if It wasn’t for the IBM facility.
The exodus away from the high taxation and gay marriage of the northern states probably has more to do with the closing of this suspiciosly unnamed Church than anything else. $11,000 property taxes for a 1100 sq ft home in the north vs. $1800/yr for 2500 sq ft here in the south and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out what’s going on. Neither Summorum Pontificum nor the Latin Mass was going to save this Church, nor any of the other hundreds of Churches which have closed from Illinois to Michigan to Maine.
In other news, I signed up to be a sacristan and reader at
our third mission Church here in suburban Atlanta.
