In his address to the Catholic Bishops of the U.S.A at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, the Holy Father on April 16, 2008 included this:

"Once again, it falls to you to ensure that the moral formation provided at every level of ecclesial life reflects the authentic teaching of the Gospel of life."

It is so noteworthy to me that the Pope said this to them openly and publicly, as if he couldn’t wait to get here and tell them that. Apparently this is a message that he felt that they needed to hear.

Of course, I’m overjoyed that he said it, because I couldn’t agree with him more.

On EWTN, there have been many programs in the lasts month that have made my ears burn. Frs. Pacwa, Groeschel, Corapi, Spitzer, and others have been just beating up US priests and bishops for various things including:
  • objections to the divinity of Christ
  • objections to Humanae Vitae and the ban on contraception
  • objections to the teaching on abortion
  • skepticism over the Bible
  • bishops and seminary staff requiring aspiring seminarians to endorse female ordination, under threat of expulsion
and, on and on.

A few of you may remember that I don’t go to Mass anymore, simply because of the large number of priests in my diocese who don’t proclaim “authentic teaching” of the Church.

To me, the result of the Pope’s visit will be how much the Bishops take this part of his message and just “do it.”

I’m glad the Pope said it was THEIR problem, and not mine.

Crumpy,
First, although I can appreciate your boycot of Mass due to the Priest of your diocess your boycot is still wrong and unjustifiable and an aborgation of the vocation you received through you Baptism and Confirmation.

And I think your attitude is reflected in your thread here and I cannot say you are wrong but I think you may be missing the fullness of our Holy Father’s thought. Perhaps to give you a better understanding of what Pope Benedict XVI was talking about, that is the message itself of the Gospel of Life, I suggest you study Pope John Paul II’s encylical letter “Evangelium Vitae”. I think if you study this important work of our late Holy Father you will have a better understanding of the necessity our present Holy Father places on our bishops to proclaim this message loud and clear.

I am not boycotting the Mass. I don’t think there is a legitimate Mass around here. I am not in unity with what is preached and passed off as the Catholic faith, when it plainly contradicts the faith, which can be so easily seen in the Catechism.

The advice of St. Paul to Titus, at the end of the letter, is to correct the heretic once or twice then to move on. Don’t forget, these priests have arrogance stacked on top of their heresies.

More Catholics need to stop going to Mass until the bishops get their act together, talk to people like myself.

All the attention has been given to the sex abuse scandal, and that subject treated as if it were the ONLY think wrong in the Church. It is not, by a long shot.

Well, two more things.
  1. Yes, I can see what you are driving at, the gospel of life.
  2. Yeah, I’m concerned about “authentic teaching” about everything, including the gospel of life.
well, 3 things.
  1. I never even thought of the word “boycott” as describing why I don’t go to Mass. To me, it’s a matter of too much pain to go to Mass, when the teaching is not “authentic.”

What are the priests in your diocese saying that is so bad?

Even if some of the things they say are not improper, you should still attend mass for the sake of receiving the body and blood of Christ.

Your position is absolutely ludicrous. Your opinion of the priest is irrelevant to your obligation to attend Mass. Frankly its stupid to deliberately reject God’s love and put yourself in mortal sin thus endangering your immortal soul over your dislike for a priest.
It is also a further mortal sin calling on others to stop going to Mass. You need to come to your senses.
