I recall when he was first elected pope some said he would not engage the people. Well, he certainly proved those who said that wrong. I remember well his travels and the audiences he gave during his papacy.

I of course remember most from his papacy his famous Summorum Pontificum.

His theological writings also had a great and positive influence on many.

If this is true and Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI has entered the last phase of his life, I am deeply saddened to hear this. I really loved his papacy, and like many I was shocked when he stepped down in 2013.

He has been a very humble servant of God. If he is indeed on his journey home to the heavenly kingdom, we should offer our prayers for Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI.

Since the Fall of Man, aren’t we all in the last phase of our life from the moment of conception?

This letter was written in February 2018.

Vatican City, Feb 7, 2018 / 02:18 am (CNA/EWTN News).- In a rare new letter penned by Benedict XVI, the retired pontiff said he is in the last phase of his life, and while his physical strength might be waning, he is surrounded by a “love and goodness” that he never imagined.

While it is older, I am glad he is still able to communicate with people. One thing I had admired about St. John Paul was the way he met his diminishing health with such grace.

I think Pope Benedict had a really tough act to follow because JP2 was so warm and engaging and came from a different culture.
Pope Benedict didn’t have that same warm and cuddly vibe, he was more of cerebral personality and then he resigned early.
But I think history will vindicate him.
