My favorite Consumer Reports article was on cat foods. 24 college students were paid like $500 each to experiment and report on feeding different brands of cat food to some shelter cats. After the six months, all 24 cats were adopted.

I have heard of this. It might work with 2 of our cats but I am not sure it would work with Mr. Bigglesworth (Biggie). Biggie is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. He follows Daddy around, tried to make friends with a dog once (the dog appeared not to know quite what to make of him), and simply stayed in the house on a couple of occasions when the window screen was damaged. Biggie would probably simply stare at the toilet and then walk away and do his business elsewhere. (Despite being rather thick he is a lovely cat and loves attention and his people.)

We had one that would look up at an open back door, then put his head back down and go back to sleep. Of course, he had been an absolute outdoor cat until that car . . .

At about the same time, a kitten we ended up with that had been raised indoors since the day he was born outside in the 100F heat was insistent on outside whenever he could manage–bolting for cracked doors, etc. We had to lock him in the laundry room for a couple of days (I forget why. Peeing on the carpet, maybe??/)l, and he broke the screen on our fairly new double-pane windows to get out. We never saw him again (and had no real hope to, as he had a habit of sitting in the middle of the street when he got out . . .)

Excellent litter discipline. I am sure your cats would thank you if cats were inclined to thank people for things, but they aren’t. 🙂
