Hello, I have acquired (cheaply!) a nice set of the Benedictine Divine Office (in Croatian) that our Benedictines use. It is the new office, and it uses the Schema B.

Now, the problem is, there are pretty much no rubrics in it. In the beginning of each book are some rubrics concerning which feast to take or similar, but nothing really pertaining to the actually execution of the Office. Does anyone have some online source of those rubrics? After the psalms, not even the Gloria Patri is indicated! (excuse me if I am mistaken here, but I am pretty sure that they say the Gloria Patri after their psalms).

Thank you!

Online, I don’t know of any rubrics. The Abbey I’m associated with also uses schema B. I have that breviary and it has extensive rubrics, but in French only.

A couple of options: if you know a bit of Latin, Google “Thesaurus Liturgiae Monasticae”. It should have what you are looking for, for all modern Schemas. I know it exists out there, it’s a large PDF file.

The other is to simply use the General Instructions and Ordinary of the Roman Liturgy of the Hours. The differences between that and schema B aren’t that great. The hours have the same format, etc. There are some options specific to the Monastic Office and to schema B such as spreading psalms over two weeks in stead of one but the differences aren’t huge. They mostly focus on monastic obligations.

You can PM me if you have any questions.

Thanks for the answer. I have already checked the Thesaurus and, as far as I know, it doesn’t contain anything rubric-wise, just how to construct the office with the various schemas.

I hadn’t looked at the Thesaurus for quite some time. In any case as I mentioned, the rubrics are essentially the same as with the LOTH as far as structure and rules go; you can consult them here. The calendar is of course different. And yes, the Gloria Patri is always said at the end of the psalms except for the long version of the OT canticle of Daniel on Sundays which has a “built-in” doxology. There are more “structural” rubrics in the Ordinary of the LOTH.

There are some monastic options such as saying the Kyrie before the Our Father, or the Kyrie followed by the Our Father in secret for the minor hours. The General Instructions talk a lot about the philosophy of Schema B, and mention some monastic obligations such as how many hours to recite in choir, and when the Roman LOTH may legitimately be used instead of a Monastic schema. You can also, in the Monastic version, place the hymn after the reading and responsory, with the ornate verse following the hymn.

Like I said if you have any specific questions I’d be happy to answer them as best I can via private message.
