St. Leo Abbey is beautiful. Abutting a small lake, its located next to St. Leo University and Holy Name Monastery (Benedictine Sisters of Florida of the Federation of Saint Scholastica). If only they would follow up on inquiries regarding their oblate program [sound of crickets chirping]!
I still think you should follow up with them again. It would not surprise me if the monk just forgot about it or lost the e-mail.

Cheers,

Jason,

No monk - my contact is the lay minister or director of the St. Leo Oblate group. It appears I will have to re-establish contact myself. Who knows, he may have accidentally deleted my e-mail. He may be consumed by his duties as an oblate leader and his law practice. Or he may simply have forgotten to respond. I guess I felt slightly snubbed at the lack of a prompt response which, in retrospect, is stupid. I’m sure his omission his fully explainable and non-intentional by any means.

By the way, I heard from the last Franciscan group. They are traditional, orthodox, and faithful to the Magisterium and the Holy See. I will attend their next meeting in September. I have narrowed my options to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Community of Discalced Carmelites, Holy Family Fraternity (Franciscans), Opus Dei, and the St. Leo Benedictine Oblates. Too early for an order of preference, but I assure you I will entertain no other options. I am quite satisfied with the groups described above.

Jason is apparently well on his way to the sea of tranquility. Bon voyage, mate!

On July 5th, I’m meeting with Opus Dei at their Study Center over a few beers (his suggestion - you have to like their approach). I’ve confirmed my visit with the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Discalced Carmelite Community on July 15th. I will call the two Franciscan fraternities tomorrow.

Indeed, I shall be a very holy person by the end of the month! Ha!
David,

I looked into Opus Dei. Very holy people. Be aware that to be a full member, you have to give over all your assets, and they will give you what they feel you need to live on. At least that was the way it was when I looked into it.

Luigi,

I believe you are referring to the obligation of numeraries, single celibates who live in Opus Dei centers, who I believe give about 30% of their income to Opus Dei. Supernumeraries are different. They include married Catholics, like me. You can be sure I will check out any monetary requirements because I have no intention of affecting my family’s finances to their detriment.

I will speak with Opus Dei Thursday evening. I’m doing so in the spirit of genuine interest, but I sincerely believe I will end up with the Franciscans, Benedictines, or Discalced Carmelites.

David,

If you can, please give us a short synopsis of what you learn about them. 🙂

Glad to. I don’t think I’ll be sworn to secrecy under pain of death.
You never know 😃

My D-Days are fast approaching: OFS meeting this Sunday (really disappointed in the friars’ what seems to me defiant stance on the off the reservation nuns, TBH); Oblate 1 week after that. (Anyone know if any of the monks have supported the nuns against the Holy See? 😦 )

I’m confused, Luigi. You’re attending meetings with Benedictines and Franciscans as a visitor? What exactly is the decision to which you are referring?

Whether to be an Oblate or an OFS. I have promised myself that I will choose by July 15th.😉

I am disappointed (in myself) that I completely suck at Lectio Divina. The first 3 steps = no problem. Contemplatio I get absolutely nothing.

Lectio is so important to the Bennies tradition, that I am wondering if my suckyness at it is a message from God…

I stink at it, too… 😉 I don’t think anyone is expecting you to be a master at LD, but rather a lifelong student…

I understand the four-stage process of Lectio Divina (in theory). Is Lectio Divina not significant or even practiced with the Franciscans? I honestly don’t know much about the spiritual mechanics of each Order.

I did not know you had a self-imposed deadline. When you mentioned D-Day in previous posts, I thought your deadline was one imposed by an Order. How far along are you with each Order?

I don’t think so.

Consider lectio divina like baseball - you always have to go to batting practice if you want to stay in the majors.

But my average is .050, so I’m pretty sure I’m being sent down
I thought your average was .750 - you have the first three stages down pat. That’s a pretty good batting average. get back to the batting cage, Luigi!

How have you done with the Divine Office? I have yet to participate, but it looks confusing to a newcomer like me. The Discalced Carmelites (Our Lady of Mount Carmel Community) do it immediately following the Rosary and right before Mass.
