I’d like to ask a question of the other Bennies here, if I may:

What ordo do you all use? The “regular” Liturgy of the Hours? Monastic Diurnal? Something else?
I use the regular Liturgy of the Hours through iBreviary.

I use the regular Liturgy of the Hours through iBreviary.
I love iBreviary:thumbsup:

The reason that I ask is that the monastery I am affiliated with, they use a LotH plus (extra Psalm, much longer reading)

I wish there was a Benedictine Catholic Liturgy of the Hours Guide from St Joseph’s…

Yeah…when I’m at the monastery it’s completely different. But when I’m at home I use iBreviary.

OK, it seems that the first information was correct after all. The person who passed on the second set of info, I come to find out is, how do I put this charitably?..let’s say a brick short. To make a long story short, the info above turns out to be correct. The majority of the meetings are indeed in Spanish. The anglos can speak it. As I said above, I can not.

I praise God for allowing me to go through all this. I think it has strengthened me.
I have decided (as I mentioned before) to attend the Oblate meeting this Sunday.
This is obviously where the Lord wants me.

It’s a bit funny, really. This thread has heard some interesting stories. Jason from Dominican to Benedictine. David from sure of a third order calling, to Opus Dei. Me, from Franciscan to Benedictine (with interludes :o).

To all of which I say: thanks be to God.
Hahahahahahaha. I’m giddy:D

Before moving on, I decided to phone a member of the OFS fraternity council. This man, I believe completely, is well on his way to becoming a saint.

Openness, I figured would be the best policy, so I explained everything that had been reported to me. He was a tad taken aback.
The person that reported this “all Spanish, all the time” hasn’t been to a meeting in years. Back then, meetings were indeed a large part Spanish only. In the years that have passed, this situation has changed such that (as I alluded to before) the meetings are in English, with the exception of the times (not at every meeting) when the group breaks up into discussion sessions. So there is no problem.

I will be attending my first meeting (back) in, appropriately enough, St Francis’ month of October:) (I may try and sneak away for a few moments in September, but it’s pretty doubtful that I’ll be able to pull it off).

I firmly believe that it is through the grace of the prayers of all of you that things have worked out. May God reward you all. 🙂

Cool, amica mia.👍

For anyone who is interested, you can order the Roman Franciscan St Joseph’s Guide for the Liturgy of the Hours at Franciscan Resources. 🙂

So I purchased a Kindle recently and decided I wanted to have a nice copy of the Holy Rule to read on it … I ended up getting this version and it’s gorgeous. The Doyle translation is available for the Kindle but I’m sucked in by the language of this one. 😛

The Rule of St. Benedict, translated by Boniface Verheyen

Anyone know when ecumenism became a part of benedictinism and why?

Thanks:)

Meetings 4th Sunday, not 3rd. October OK. Working on rest of year.

As a new member, I am wondering if anyone has had a reply from Silverstream Priory on their distance oblates. I have e-mailed several times over the past months on their contact site, sent a surface mail, which was answered by one of the community, as the Prior was away, who said he would contact me on his return. As the weeks went by, I wrote again without success. I realize they are a new community with all the difficulties of moving into a new location but has anyone herd from them and is their policy of distance oblates still on the go?

I am sure you have already, but maybe a phone call?

I contacted them in the past and did not have any luck with a response. I did get fast responses from Norica in Italy who does have a distance Oblate program However, they require you to make at least one retreat there at the monastery before they will accept you as an oblate novice.

If you like, you can PM me or put your location on here and perhaps we can help you find a place local that fits your needs.

Peace,

Thanks Luigi and Jason for your helpful replies. I live in north west England and having a long period of poor health, it hasn’t been easy to get away on visits. I have been in contact recently with Belmont Abbey in Hereford and the oblate master, apparently, comes from a town across the bay from where I live! so as the saying goes, it’s a small world.
I have just joined the forum, today, although I have visited this thread on Benedictine Oblates several times. Glad to be a part of it.

Good to have you here. There are a number of threads going on becoming an Oblate as well as Benedictine Spirituality that may be of interest. Here is one good example that you may have seen already.
