Benedictine priest, patristic scholar converts to Russian Orthodox Church

Well known to Catolics patristic scholar and monk, Father Gabriil Bunge, who lived for many years in Switzerland as hermit and has written several books has converted to Russian Orthodox church. Was received into Russian Orthodox church by Metropolit Ilarion Volokolamskiy. Father Gabriil says that he realized when in Greece that Western church left Eastern church and not other way. He for many years has come to believe that centralization of Catolic church is not like ancient church, and has chosen now to become Russian Orthodox. He also in religious magazine “Thomas, Journal for Doubters” said that Mitropolit Ilarion was most wise young bishop he knows and helped him to convert

To identify those in photo. Young man (you call like child) is altar helper wearing blue stikharion because Father Gabriil received into Holy Orthodoxy on Feast of Dormition in Church of IIkon of Mother of God Радость всех скорбящих - or Happiness of all sad ones. Such young man is holding mitre which is gift to another Mitropolitan, who helped Father Gabriil, Mitropolit Kallistos. Mitropolit Ilarion is to left of altar server. Mitropolit Kallistos is to left Below is picture of Father Gabrill, who I believed to be familiar to catolics, already. He is older monk with white beard, holding Evangile.

The younger bishop in the white klobuk is Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk. He is the chairman of the Department of External Church Relations (DECR) of the Russian Orthodox Church, a roughly similar position to what Cardinal Kasper holds in the Catholic Church.

He has gotten a lot of press lately for throwing cold water on the supposed “breakthrough” in the Orthodox/Catholic diologue in Vienna and for this rather pointed address to the Anglicans at Lambeth. It goes without saying there were some rather shocked expressions in the audience after he finished speaking.
