Ok I went to mass with my RC friend today.
At the end the priest took a looner that he had left on the alter while giving anouncements and blessing an old married couple and blessed everyone with it. He then took the same looner put it on/in a book and carried it back to the side chapel without any pomp or really anyone knowing what was going on. no candels no nothing. Not even a humeral veil.
That was really a gross liturgical abuse. As I am not Catholic, Orthodox actually, do I have the right to say anything to anyone. His superior perhaps? He is a benedictine. If he is the head of the congregation here should I aproach the local ordinary.
Adoration is one thing. Slopy, mater of fact tossing of a eucharistic lamb is another.

My question is, if the OP is such an Orthodox Catholic and wants to report this priest why did he now know the proper terms.

I would suggest talking directly to the priest to make him aware of your concerns and allow him the chance to apologize and/or explain. Too often people run to Bishops and Superiors totally bypassing the source.

Thanks.
I am Orthodox Christian. As in Russian Orthodox. How would I know what it’s called. I just know it was careless.

Since there is a significant difference in the rites how do you know there was something wrong in THIS rite?

You think it was Ok to put the eucharist in a book and walk down the aisle with it.
Just doesn’t strike me as reverent.

You indicated an unfamiliarity with things of this rite -
the possibility exists that you are bothered because it is very different and because you don’t have the grounding/language you can’t clearly tell us what happened.

Nope checked with my buddy. Not normal. Not in any rubrics I have found since the post.
Wow I spell what I hear. You read what I write and make the connection to the proper spelling and I don’t know what I’m talking about because Chemistry is my thing not comparitve Christianity. Are you OK with a priest placing the Eucharist in a book (his worn dog eared coffee stained missal to use correct terms, not his liturgicon or bible). I really can’t see that as being part of authentic Roman tradition.

I am not buying your story

I am not buying your story
Why?
Why would I lie about a priest? Even though he is not Orthodox he is still a priest. Were he Orthodox and commited such an abuse I would have no problem with a Catholic calling him on it.

I am not buying it because of the embellishments.

As you were not their you cannot tell rightly what is embellishment and what is not.
Wait. Were you at mass in Virginia Beach, Virginia? If so which of the two optional first readings were taken.

[Edited by Moderator] it sounds like something that would happen in my parish. What is so far fetched about it, the Eucharist is ignored and shown irreverance countless times every day across the country. We are currently in a crisis of abuse which is widespread and extremely insulting towards our Lord.

I would complain about it as I agree it is irreverant and wrong to treat the Blessed Sacrament in such a way.

God Bless

The embellishments are easy to spot.

So, I am just an Orthadox girl that likes to start trouble in areas I don’t know. I am a liar, and like to attack priests and sully their reputations.
Look, believe it or not it was my Lord Father treated so irreverently.
If you have a problem with me speaking in love for my God. Tell it to the Pope.

[Edited by Moderator] This certainly was an abuse to begin with. I mean why would there be a Benediction given with just the luna?
First, the luna should have been placed in the monstrance. http://www.twoheartsdesign.com/images/clipart/catholic/eucharist/images/monstrance1.jpg
The priest should have used a humeral veil to give the blessing. From what I read, I assume there was no O Saving Victim/O Salutaris sung and no Tantum Ergo with the oration and the Divine Praises.

Also, it should be carried back to the Tabernacle covered with the humeral veil around the hands of the priest and not in the book. This was an abuse. Also, at least four candles should be lit during Benediction.

Why tell it to the Pope? It is not like the Orthodox cares what he says.
