But on the CUF {Catholics United for Faith} website there were serious reservations:

I think the program has some good and some :eek: My suggestion is that you review EVERY piece that is going to be presented to your child and make sure you are comfortable. We use a differenent program in our school and don’t start until 6th grade. But the diocese has a Father-Son program that my DH and DS1 went to. The material they handed out was from BFL. I think even the presenters knew it was “iffy” since they put it in the package that went to the dads and not the one for the kids. It was wildly inappropriate for all but the most worldly 7th grader (my son’s grade at the time). I would give you quotes but I threw it in the fire.

One of the criticisms of BFL is that the books the kids bring home look pretty innocent but there is more controversial material in the teachers guide. If you are going to look into it, make sure you look at everything and know which of the many optional activities will be done in your child’s class. In the hands of a good moral teacher, the program could be done well. In the hands of a more “progressive” educator, it could be the end of any innocence your child has.

The original version was based on a text writen for Planned Parenthood. That’s usually not a good sign. :mad: The more recent version has some of the more explicit material “detachable” which could mean they aren’t used in the class at all or it could mean they *are *used but not in the material sent home for parents to see.
 
which edition?

peruse every single item they give your child with care. If you don’t want him to participate the diocese must give you the chance to opt out without any penalty
 
I’m assuming it’s the latest edition. According to the USCCB link they seem to be on the 4th edition.
