I’m a new teacher, picking up some after school tutoring and taking 3 online colleges classes. I am drowned in work. I just got ordered to go to Grand Jury Duty on Wednesdays for the next three months. It will be a 2 hour commute there and back (rural area). I need to get myself under control. I am having wrathful thoughts.

You have this student’s prayers. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, Amen.

Grand Jury duty, oh no!

Praying for your peace, and freedom from anger.

Good grief. Perhaps they’ll give you a hardship waiver, that commute sounds unrealistic.

I will pray for you.

Prayer Against Anger

O Lord, must I fear Your wrath?
Retribution is Yours by right!
May I never dishonour Your Divinity,
My soul seeking to maintain Your love.
Shape my being into earnest kindness,
A reflection of Your perfection.
Grant me the grace of self-control,
That I may not display any anger.
Should I have such an outburst,
Instantly remind me to seek redress,
For such is offensive to You.
Anger is Yours alone to avenge!

Like yourself, I am living in a 3rd world country. Commuting 2 hours is reasonable according to the court, and the court is God.

Prayers offered for your intentions.

(Perhaps you can use the drive time for prayers as novenas.
You may feel less angry if you feel the time serves a higher purpose.)

The biggest obstacle to my life isn’t the workload itself: it’s me and my nagging tendency to victimize myself. “I work so hard for the community, I shouldn’t have to do this, I am being punished for being a good citizen, etc.” If I could just silence my thoughts and dig my heels in and get to work, I would be fine. It’s a lot, but it’s doable.

Last week I stopped at Burger King to order a chicken sandwich. There was a woman in her 50s or 60s working the cash register. I thought to myself on how that little lady is standing at the cash register, making as much money in 5 hours as I do in one. Then I thought how there’s children eating food out of dumpsters. How somebody my age or younger is laying on a bed in a hospital with cancer in severe pain. And then there’s me with my perfect health and all the good things that have happened to me in the past 3 years, bemoaning the world because I’m being swamped with more work than I care to have.

I don’t understand why I’m like that. But I can’t turn it off. The anger and resentment is there whether I want it or not. I can’t stop comparing myself to people that have it seemingly easier than I do. If I just lightened up, the experience would probably be very educational & character-building for me. I wish I was a better man.

It is an educational and sobering duty. You will be better for it, so just go with it.

And you will be praying for wisdom, I’m sure, for any decisions you make while serving on a jury, so it’s good for everyone involved that you’ll be in that place of service.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

For Help in Trials

Most holy apostle St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the name of the traitor who delivered your beloved Master into the hands of His enemies has caused you to be forgotten by many. But the Church honors and invokes you universally as the patron of hopeless cases–of things despaired of. Pray for me who feels so hopeless. Make use, I implore you, of that particular privilege accorded to you of bringing visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need, that I may receive the consolations and succor of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings, in particular TK421, and that I may bless God with you and all the elect throughout eternity. I promise you, O Blessed St. Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor, and I will never cease to honor you as my special and powerful patron, and to do all in my power to encourage devotion to you. Amen.

Prayer to Our Lady of Mental Peace

O Lady of Mental Peace,
Mother of Tranquility
and Mother of Hope,
look upon TK421 in this time
of weakness and unrest.

Teach her searching heart
to know that God’s Love
for her is unchanging and
unchangeable, and, that
true human love can only
begin and grow by touching
His Love.

Let your gentle Peace -
which this world cannot give
  • be always with her.
And, help her to bring this
    same Peace into the lives
    of others.
Our Lady of Mental Peace,
  • Pray for us!
    Amen.
Jesus, Help Me!

In every need let me come to You with humble trust,
saying:
Jesus, help me!
In all my doubts, perplexities, and temptations:
Jesus, help me!
In hours of loneliness, weariness and trials:
Jesus, help me!
In the failure of my plans and hopes, in disappointments,
troubles and sorrows:
Jesus, help me!
When others fail me, and Your Grace alone can assist me:
Jesus, help me!
When I throw myself on Your tender Love as Savior:
Jesus, help me!
When my heart is cast down by failure, at seeing no good
come from my efforts:
Jesus, help me!
When I feel impatient, and my cross irritates me:
Jesus, help me!
When I am ill, and my head and hands cannot work and
I am lonely:
Jesus, help me!

Always, always, in spite of weakness, falls and short-
comings of every kind:
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, help me and never forsake me!

Amen

I was excused from jury duty for honest reason. Perhaps you can be, too. ME

I actually felt the same exact way when I was selected to serve on the Grand Jury. First I asked for a hardship excuse which the judge did not grant me. He tried to encourage me by saying I would learn how the judicial system works. Then I was the 3rd one picked of the 12 and 4 alternates. Then I was selected as Jury Foreman. The term was for 6 months. Fortunately, there were only 2 cases in the 6 months. The process went smoothly and I am exempt from serving on any jury for 2 years. I can understand your frustrations. It will go quickly. Will keep you in prayer.

Eternal God ,
in whom mercy is endless,
and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible,
look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us ,
that in difficult moments we might not despair
nor become despondent , but with great confidence ,
submit ourselves to Your Holy Will ,
which is love and mercy itself .
Amen

At least you are seeing and sincerely facing your thoughts and, believe me, that is more than half the battle . …the other half is up to you but a literal punchbag or similar will dispel that energy and free you.

In the days when had a lawn, a lawn mower and still had the physical ability to use it ( all long since gone!) when something bad had happened to someone close I would get out there and mow the lawn. On one notable occasion that lawn got scalped 😉

I was so ANGRY and yes, it helped by exhausting me.

And re other people… you do not know what they are enduring. This was made clear here a few weeks ago when a deputy headmaster, stable, welll loved, hardworking and apparently happy, killed his wife three sons and hilmself. It has stopped me forever thinking anyone is better off than I am.

May your wish be granted!
