I just read a story about a British TV show that counted down, based on the votes of the populace, the Top 50 Television performers of all time. Someone I had never heard of won, but Morecambe and Wise (two comedians that I love!) were 2nd place!

So…if we had such a contest in the U.S., which television show would YOU pick as the Best TV Show of all time?

I am torn between “I Love Lucy” and “M.A.S.H.” I think I would have to go with M.A.S.H.–it was not only funny, but serious, and really made people think. My dad (R.I.P.) a Korean War vet who worked as as autopsy assistant with the medics, loved M.A.S.H.

I really like Seinfeld. Pretty subjective topic, though!

Very subjective indeed. Torn between
  1. Mr. Rogers Neighborhood
  2. Ernie Kovacs Show
  3. Science Fiction Theater
Maybe SFT.

MASH

The Sopranos

Twilight Zone

ETA my personal favorite, The West Wing

I thought Green Acres was great, too. I guess I have low taste.

I like The Middle. Of course, considering that EWTN is on DirecTV…

Twin Peaks, the Honeymooners, the Twilight Zone, the mini-series Roots, Happy Days, Star Trek, Tge Sopranos; Seinfeld, Friends; I must be forgetting loads.

Please would you name who won for us even if you’ve never heard of them? Just curious! 😊

In no particular order, I’d list:

MASH,
WKRP In Cincinatti,
Life is Worth Living (Servant of God Fulton Sheen),
Star Trek,
Star Trek TNG
Star Trek DS9
Batman The Animated Series,
Freakazoid,
The Monkees,
Boston Legal,
Have Gun Will Travel

Ah…that makes sense. He’s a ‘National Treasure’ (and a sir), on a par with Morcambe and Wise, and is most famous for being in two of the most popular sitcoms in British TV history - ‘Only Fools and Horses’ and ‘Open all Hours’ plus playing Inspector Jack Frost. If you YouTube Del Boy and Bar you can see what was voted the funniest moment in UK sitcom history…

Edit: Just noticed this show was 2005…let’s just say that’ nowadays, David would probably still feature highly but Rolf Harris would definitely not feature. I’m sure you can discover why if curious…

Oh, and my votes from the UK for US shows…
MASH
Babylon 5
Soap

The clear answer is The Wire. I’ll also entertain votes for Breaking Bad. Honorable mention to The Americans.

Remember where you came from!

Everybody Loves Raymond.
Entertaining enough, but greatest tv show of all time? That’s like saying Del Taco is the greatest Mexican food on earth. Fine for what it’s trying to be, but…ehh.

If we were going the comedy route, I might say early to mid Simpson’s.
