Hi,
I want to read more about the saints. Does anyone have recommendations for the best books of lives of the saints? I am interested in collections of lives of the saints as well as individual books or biographies of individual saints. Thank you for any recommendations.
God bless you. Amen.

The Legenda Aurea or Golden Legend might be what you’re looking for.
It’s a medieval book with the lives of many saints, though they tend to be quite summarized.

The life of St. Francis by St. Bonaventure is a must.

Book Suggestion on Lives of Saints? Spirituality
Jen, I like “Butler’s Lives Of The Saints” by Paul Burns. A Priest I know, uses it for information he gives at daily Mass. The book has alot of detail about each Saint and follows the Church Calendar. Another idea is to check out the Children’s area of Books on the Saints. They have alot of information on the Saints. Welcome to the forum.

As for individual saints I’ve read several of the more modern saints. The reason why is because the accounts are possibly more accurate or recorded better than the very old saints.

So saints such as St Pio, St Therese of Lisieux, St John Vianney, Blessed Fr Solanus Casey, and many others. Those four I’d definately recommend but there are various versions available.

I highly recommend reading about St. Martin de Porres, an amazing Saint who had the gifts to speak with animals, heal people, levitate during prayer, and bilocation. Such an inspirational Saint, he was a Dominican lay janitor and barber as well as medic. He also was my Confirmation Saint 🙂

Also I am sure you have read a ton of Pope St. John Paul II, but he is amazing and deserves to be read about all the time haha! Jason Evert wrote a fantastic book on him.

If Joan of Arc is of interest, read the book by Mark Twain. It is excellent and accurate.

I also love the biography of St. Francis by GK Chesterton.
