I think many people prefer to leave Jesus to the imagination. I never watched the whole movie.

But I do like the Gospel of John movie that came out about the same time as The Passion.

I saw it. That’s the one where Robert Powell portrayed Our Lord. I liked it, but I also remember some people being critical of his performance, like, too meek, too gentle, or too whatever. I can understand that, what with people being passionate about their particular idea of how Our Lord must have been.

I’m blessed enough to have a cd of ‘Jesus of Nazareth’. Very moving.

Of course, it goes without saying: The song of Bernadette, and Miracle of Fatima. Then there is Monsieur Vincent. (This is the life on St. Vincent de Paul.)

Does anyone know some more older first rate movies on the saints from that era?

Can anyone think of some more?

I suppose Brahm Stoker’ Dracula does not count. What do you guys think about miracle of Saint Thereese and a Joan of arc movie as classics?

There must be a saint movie we have missed.

Becket, from 1964, with Richard Burton and Peter O’Toole. It tells of King Henry II (O’Toole) and his love/hate relationship with his friend, the martyr St. Thomas Becket (Burton). I enjoyed watching it.

That’s a coincidence…I just watched it on youtube yesterday…it’s free if anyone is interested…and yes…was a great movie

You can find them on UTUBE and most of them are free. Don’t forget THE ROBE, THE SILVER CHALICES, MOSES and a few others. Peace. MEB

I am surprised that no one has mentioned “The Ten Commandments” with Charlton Heston
A childhood favorite of mine. I think most of my elementary school class were enthralled with it when it was televised. I never thought of it as particularly Catholic though. More like Jewish or generally Christian.

I am cheating and jumping ahead a bit to 1984. There was a most excellent miniseries done on Teresa of Avila that is in Spanish with subtitles.

Her feast day is this Sunday.

(I think it’s on YouTube and DVD also)
