Best Catholic Study Bible

I would like to hear your recommendations for “the best” (in your own opinion) Catholic study Bible. I have the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible New Testament, but want the Old and New Testaments in one Bible. Thank you in advance for your recommendations.

I bought that the other day on my lunch break and pulled it out of the bag and it was on the passenger seat. I was driving back to the office and was at a red light. I looked down at the Bible and the words “New Testament” jumped out at me. I was disappointed. I
Taking it back actually. I have been buying Navarre bibles used over the last year and they make great study bibles. I think I will be buying a CSS (Catjolic Scripture Study) bible when they are available in late october.

I like the ignatious study bible a LOT. I just need the whole bible with me.

Given the size of the Bible, it is difficult to find a book that contains all of Sacred Sripture with study material as well.
I’d highly recommend Scott Hahn’s ‘Understanding The Scriptures: A Complete Course On Bible Study’. It’s available on Amazon.
Scott Hahn is a brilliant theologian with the gift of being able to effectively communicate with the average person. You do not have to be a theology student or scholar in order to get a good grasp of his writing.

You may want to consider the Haydock Bible. It was written in the 1800’s specifically to refute Protestant arguments from Scriptures. The link is below, but there is also a printed copy that you can buy. Printed versions are Old and New Testaments separately. The online has everything…

It may be difficult to find Catholic study bibles like that, but Protestant ones abound (NIV Study Bible, ESV Study Bible, Literary Study Bible, MacArthur Study Bible, Archaeological Study Bible, Life Application Bible, Ryrie Study Bible, Dake Annotated Study Bible, New Oxford Annotated Bible, and so on). Most of them have at least 15,000 study notes (the Dake has 35,000! ). I don’t see why there can’t be any Catholic study bibles that contain the whole bible with study material. Yes, they are bulky and heavy, but not unreasonably so (I have several of them).

The only two Catholic study bibles that come to mind, are the Catholic Study Bible (Oxford) which is in the NAB translation and the New Jerusalem Bible (with study notes), not the readers edition. Both use the historical-critical type notes and include inclusive language which is why no one has mentioned them.
