I’ve just completed the first draft of a book introducing Catholics to the study of apologetics. This book has a distinctly conservative Catholic slant, so I don’t want to bother submitting it to a publisher who is likely to reject it for that reason alone.

Any suggestions?

Congrats, Charlemagne!

St. Augustine’s Press seems like a pretty good one. Edward Feser published his books defending Catholic moral theology through it, as well as through some less well-known place called “Oneworld.”

Louisiana State University Press is also quite content to publish anti-modern works. Voegelin was published primarily through there IIRC, and he was both a Catholic and extremely anti-modern.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll check it out.

Congratulations on your Easter Baptism! I’m wondering what you converted from and were there any particular writers who were part of that?

Thanks, Charlemagne. Ed Feser’s The Last Superstition did it for me. Of course C. S. Lewis and Peter Kreeft were very influential as well.

Another thought: Since your book touches on theology and catechesis, it may be necessary to submit it first to the diocesan censor for a nihil obstat and then to the bishop for an imprimatur. If/as you go through that process, you could perhaps benefit from asking for suggestions regarding a publisher. There may even be a suitable one in your diocese.

I will definitely take a look at The Last Superstition. I’ve published several articles on atheism, so Feser’s Last Superstition should be an interesting read for me.

I will also have to study up on my bishop’s conservative credentials. 😉

Thanks again.

Besides from the good suggestions you got and will get, what you can do is do a web search for books LIKE the one you have published - then find out who was the publisher of that book(s) and you’ll know that they are looking to publish those kinds of books.

The only problem there is that no one has written books like the one I have written.

I guess the bottom line is that most books of apologetics are by conservatives, rather than liberals. The liberals tend to defy traditional and authentic Church teachings rather than uphold and defend them. So you are right. Almost any publishing house for apologetics books might be the best bet, but I’ll look for the publishers first of all of writers like Peter Kreeft and others I admire.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Here’s a web site that ranks publishers by their orthodoxy. aquinasandmore.com/catholic-articles/how-to-choose-catholic-books-and-publishers/article/90

Here is a site that lists Catholic publishers and the types of books they prefer:
assets.booklocker.com/pdfs/3294s.pdf Unfortunately, they tease you with 8 pages. You have to purchase the publication if you want more. I, too have written a book and just recently found a publisher. Good luck to you.

Steve,

Thank you for those references. I will check them out. And very best wishes for the success of your new book!

I will be away from my computer for the next three weeks.
But I hope anyone with advice will keep posting.

God bless.
