i seem to be having a lot of problems with my best friends lately. i don’t know. this one says he’s turned mormon because i hurt him so bad when i broke up with him, this guy is turning twenty soon and he still has to grow up!! it really bugs me, so i told him to just not talk to me any more? was that a good decision? or should i keep trying to convert him back?

Hi Sarah,
The best thing you can do is keep an open line of communication if you can. Don’t brow beat him, but PRAY a lot for him. The Holy Spirit is the one who will lead him back into the truth.

Try being the best Catholic you can be and show him, by example, that you have what he needs, JESUS!

Wasn’t it St. Francis that said something like, “preach always, and when necessary, use words”.

in Christ

You know that you’re not responsible for his decisions?
It’s not mature to change your religion just because a girlfriend breaks up with you. If he thinks you care a lot about being Catholic maybe he just thinks it’s a good way to hit back at you.

A possible benefit in keeping clear of him might be to remove the impetus for him to become Mormon, as then, making a point to you is a wasted effort. If you try to convert him back it may only confirm him in his decision, in hopes manipulating you to take him back “to save him”. His commitment to the church or the Mormon church can’t be all that deeply rooted, perhaps?

If you encounter him be pleasant and polite, but maybe not engage too much…because he has to do the maturing himself. And as I said, he’s responsible for his own decisions, and to try to make you responsible is manipulative and immature.

Do keep him in prayer.

Unless he has a testimony of the book of mormon, he will not last long as a mormon. The LDS church is not couch potato church. Are you sure you haven’t been brow beating the lds church to you friends? It seems that he may have said what he said to get back at you.

i don’t know, he said that early on in our religion conversation, so i don’t know. but thank you all for your adviec, i’ll be sure to keep him in my prayers, and i told him that i would, i’ll do my best to be polite when i see him, that’ll be hard though, since he said those things about me, i’ll do my best.
thank you all.

ask your friend why the word Bible is in the book of Mormon. There was no such word before the actual printing of it. Google errors in the Book of Mormon and print it to it and give it to your friend.

Also pray for him:thumbsup:

When I saw the title of the thread I immediately thought of the “She’s gone country” song and started running some lyrics through my head with this theme. I admit I did giggle at myself but, it wasn’t very nice. Sorry Mormon posters.

There’s a lot of Mormon action on this board…

if he’s not serious he probably won’t stick around Mormonism for long. They require tithing a full 10%, no drinking coffee, tea or alcohol, attendance to a 3 hr block of meetings and so on.

If he is serious though it’d be useful for you to learn some things about Mormonism and have a discussion with him because he might not be aware of some things that are not readily revealed to new converts like its overt polytheism and masonically based temple rituals. It’s a problem because the LDs church makes itself sound fairly mainstream Christian ‘with the addition of the Book of Mormon’ to gain new converts, and only slowly adds in basic parts of its theology, like the nature of God being a man exalted to be a god. If he’s thoroughly aware of Mormon theology and basic history, I guess htat’s all you can really do… make sure he’s making an informed decision.
