I heard a few yrs ago,Eric Clapton and Jerry Garcia were on a safari together and were captured by some primitive tribe. The tribe was going to kill them but gave them a last request.Jerry asked if he could do a 45min guitar solo to which they agreed, they turned to Clapton,He requested to be killed before Jerry started playing.😃 I’m sorry.

Don’t be!

IF—you could jam with other players, who would you pick?I would love to jam as a three piece with Frank Baird(zztop)on drums,Cliff Williams (ACDC)on bass.Or Stu Ham on bass and Chris Layton on drums. Not that I’m good enuff to play with them but I think it would be a blast.🙂

Come on now folks…are you all “dazed and confused”???

Jimmy Page for sure 👍

and Nancy Wilson from Heart 👍

I second Joe Pass and Barney Kessel. Simply amazing.

For acoustic, Michael Chapdelaine.

Oops, almost forgot. Esteban. 🙂
Tim, do I know you from another forum? The three little letters AGF mean anything to you? 🙂

Don’t know about “best” but I listen to:
Mark Hanson
Leo Kottke
Bruce Mattiske
Tommy Emmanuel
Rory Block
Etta Baker
Elizabeth Cotten

… and a bunch of others whose names temporarily escape me.

Both are "great"players and writers.Have you ever listened to Teresa Russel? She is a very good guitarist/vocalist/writer.🙂

All I know is they all have long. slender fingers and not sausages like I have. I can’t even play Guitar Hero. 😦

That this thread could get to four pages without Frank Zappa calls into question the guitar knowledge of the posters. Robert Fripp and Adrian Belew also cannot be ignored.

– Mark L. Chance.

If I realposted, it’d go way over the limit here. :o

But if Johnny Ramone gets a nod, so should the Human Riff himself, Keith Richards, who pretty much turned rhythm guitar into a viable, respectable place in a band all by himself. Such a commanding presence!

Oh, and I rather like Aimee Mann’s style when she’s at the top of her form, and Kristen Hersh and Tanya Donnelly, to represent more of the female guitarists. Oh, and of course Joan Jett, Suzi Gardner (L7), Lita Ford…yeah, I could keep going there too!

Shoegaze may not be known for flashy solo work (in fact, that’s a lot of the point), but listen to the brothers Reid, and be floored by their power and style.

And you bet, Keaggy as well, Jack White too…augh, I better stop myself, because I WILL get carried away real fast if I don’t just stop right now! 😊

Oh wait…nobody even mentioned Brian Setzer yet? woah

Since I have a wide range of musical tastes, there are a ton of guitarists out there that are musically gifted and talented. As far as my favorites go, there are too many to list.

Slash has to be my all time favorite. His sound, the way he holds his guitar and stage presense impress me. Plus, he does an awesome job with the God Father Theme.

Others include:

Kirk Hammet - Metallica
Roy Clark
Adrian Smith and Dave Murray - Iron Maiden
Herman Li - Dragonforce
Buddy Holly
Brian May - Queen
Angus Young - AC/DC

Jonathan Donais and Matt Bachand - Shadows Fall. A lot of you probably never heard of these guys, but when I use to be a touring musician, my band played with these guys back in the late 90’s and the were awesome metal guitarists. There even better today in my opinion.

I like metal, I like rock and I like some country.

What about Best Bassists?

Steve Harris - Iron Maiden
Matt Freemon - Rancid
Me 😃

The best bassists are Dave Holland, Jaco Pastorius, NHOP, Charles Mingus and Paul Chambers; in no particular order.

Bass:Stu Hamm,Stanley Jordan,Geddy Lee are very good. Its hard to pick "the best"because, like guitar players their styles are so differant.Has anybody mentioned Johnny Winter as a great guitar player?I don’t care for fancy music if your feet can’t shuffle around=Lynarrd Skynard’s "Whiskey Rock-n-Roller.😃
